With Fall in full swing, and winter just around the corner, I thought a great chili recipe would be just the thing to warm everyone up on those rather cool nights. This would be great if at the hunting lodge with the guys or a simple meal served with cornbread.

This is also a great way to use some of the ground Venison from last years hunt.  You can use beef as a replacement, but skimming of grease would be required depending on the fat (more…)

Hunting In The Cold

The one trait about hunting season I normally dislike is, the cold. Being up in the tree stand, or sitting down below on the cold ground, just isn’t my idea of fun.  Having to wear a bulky gear that is restrictive just isn’t an option.  I was excited when I learned that Columbia released a new Omni-Heat Line of clothing that solves this problem.

Here is a short video of Wim Hoff, showing off why he doesn’t need it.  If you don’t know Hoff yet, he is a world record holder of over 18 world records, including the longest ice bath.  I think Columbia found the perfect spokesperson for their new line.

With reality shows taking over the outdoors, Top Shot on History Channel has risen to be on of the most talked about shows this day. It should also be pointed out; Top Shot was on of the first before the equally interesting, Sons of Guns, and the recent contender American Guns.  Top Shot just finished it’s third season, the success of Top Shot is far from reaching its peak of popularity with the outdoor community.

Imagine it’s a Saturday morning, and you need to go to the local auto parts store to pick up oil and filter so you can change the oil in your wife’s car.  Sure you rather be fishing or even at a local range, but when the honey-do list is set, there is no way around it.  You arrive at the store, and get the filter and oil simply standing in line when a wood-be masked robber comes in wielding a .357 magnum revolver, demanding cash. Another customer responds by taking his legally concealed firearm, shots were fired.  A window was shot, and the would-be robber is wounded in the leg.  The robber is stumbles out into the parking lot, where the police later catch up with him.

How would you respond to this situation? Would you thank the customer that was legally carrying concealed, or would you publicly belittle his actions?

Oregon Universities Open To Conceal Carry?

Universities across the nation “attempt” to protect young people by not allowing valid licensed conceal carry holders the right to carry concealed on their campuses.  This was put into the national spotlight, when a former Marine was suspended from an Oregon University in 2009.  The former Marine turned student was arrested for possessing a firearm in a public building, which the district attorney dropped would later drop all charges in the matter.
