Oregon Universities Open To Conceal Carry?

Universities across the nation “attempt” to protect young people by not allowing valid licensed conceal carry holders the right to carry concealed on their campuses.  This was put into the national spotlight, when a former Marine was suspended from an Oregon University in 2009.  The former Marine turned student was arrested for possessing a firearm in a public building, which the district attorney dropped would later drop all charges in the matter.

Earlier in the year, the student filed a lawsuit against the Oregon University System, due to the mistreatment by the university and administration.  Ultimately the Court of Appeals concluded that the campus ban on guns exceeded the reach of the school, and is invalid.  With this small victory, this starts a conversation around the ability to help stop such tragedies like at Virginia Tech in 2007.
