Seriously folks, I never have feared snakes, played with non-poisonous ones as a kid. Early on I learned which were the poisonous ones & just respected the fact that they can hurt me. I don't know what kept the two, I told about, from biting me. When I got out of that creek, I found my dad & showed him the snake & the trail I had to use to get out of the creek. He just shook his head in disbelief. I guess I was about 9 or 10 years old at the time.
On the other hand, a spider or a rat sends chills up & down my spine. I mean it! I'm starting to get over my fear of spiders & I guess it's from being around them so much. We live in a rural area & they make their webs everywhere - shop, garage, back patio, trees - everywhere. Don't see the rats, just signs that they are around. Either rats or mice chewed the wiring up in my wife's car. We have poison & traps out for them, but apparently do not live in the garage. Found where they chewed through the rubber seal on the bottom of the garage door. And, that's why I remarked that without snakes around, we'd be overrun with rats.
