| Someone is desperate for hispanic votes. This stinks! Sources: Bush plan lets some illegal workers keep jobs From John King CNN WASHINGTON (CNN) --President Bush plans Wednesday to unveil an immigration proposal that would create a Web-based job registry and a method to allow some illegal workers to keep their jobs and attain legal status, congressional and White House sources said. The proposal is Bush's first major policy initiative of 2004 -- a critical re-election year -- and will be unveiled days before Bush travels to Mexico for a regional summit and talks with Mexican President Vicente Fox. Immigration policy has been a source of frequent tension between the two presidents. Half of the estimated 8 million to 10 million illegal immigrants in the United States are from Mexico. The Bush and Fox administrations together crafted the new proposal, and U.S. officials said the two presidents are determined to create a cordial and productive relationship. Bush travels to Mexico next week. White House spokesman Scott McClellan declined to discuss details, but he did tell reporters Monday, "The president has long talked about the importance of having an immigration policy that matches willing workers with willing employers. ... It's important for America to be a welcoming society. We are a nation of immigrants, and we're better for it." White House officials and others familiar with the proposal said it closely tracks the ideas of Sen. John McCain, Republicans in the Arizona congressional delegation, and Democratic presidential candidates. The White House will contend that registering illegal workers is important for the economy and national security, according to the sources. But many conservative Republicans vehemently oppose any provision that would reward those who entered the United States illegally. | As much as I think As much as I think we have some real problems with illegals and soft security on our borders, I am also struck by the apparent fact thatm many illegals are doing jobs that no one else would do. Most of their jobs are sub minimum wage, rotten jobs that no one here wants to do as it is not enough money or beneath them. We need to tighten up the borders, get this stuff with Mexico's armed incursions into our country and stem the flow of illegal aliens. But if they want to make the illegals citizens, and the illegals want to be citizens, let them apply like everyone else. I am not in total favor on President Bush's stand here, but I do see it as one more nail in the democratic parties coffin.

| Senior Member | Heard this on the radio today. This guy is really starting to piss me off with his pandering. He's no better than the democrats in my book with his vote buying schemes. He will get re-elected. Just makes ya wonder how far he will go to get there. Don't the hispanics tend to vote deomcrat due to all the welfare freebies they hand out? What's this guy thinking.

Its funny how so many people support Bush, no matter what he does...when they're the same ones complaining for months that someone needs to do something about the illegals... Whirlwind you hope he stops at nothing...? What if he follows through on his promise to sign the AWB? What if he takes more of our gun rights away? How much are you willing to give up to have this chickenhawk in office just so he can do more damage to this country??? | |

| Mr. Fixit ![]() | Well , like Whirlwind said, what are the options? No president, present, future, or past can please everyone in America! I don't support everything he does, but I do feel that he is the best choice available. We can all be Mon. morning quarterbacks but in the end it's the guy in the big chair that has to make the hard decisions. I thank GOD every day that it's not Gore sitting there!

| Senior Member | well personally i think our second ammendment is doomed anyway, just a matter of time till the government finds a way to take that and most of our other freedoms away. unfortunately with our system structured the way it is an inevitability, and the best we can do now is choose the lesser of two evils as far as the second ammendment goes. as for most of his policies,im with bush! i.e. the mid east ,national security etc. do i want my guns taken?...nope! will i let my guns be taken? NOPE! as for what it would take to change things? i fear nothing short of revolution will work. but also as i feared from a past post here i asked the question how many would fight for their rights as laid down in the constitution (for instance giving up your suv's and nice houses to actually get in the trenches and fight for your rights! and most started crawfishing..."who would put their family through that?" they said granted there were a few such as myself, most here that replied ton that post went the way of rolling over and giving up their rights. so with that as a guide i doubt very many of us will have the balls to fight for our rights so im sure it will be a short battle if that day ever comes and i pray to god it doesnt! but its not "our" freedom...its our childrens and their childrens we should fight tooth and nail for! :assult:
