| Super Moderator ![]() | What new stuff are you looking for?
I was wondering generally what people would look for in a new pistol caliber carbine. Some people love the ruggedness of Rugers, the precision of HK, the simplicity of the MACs, the familiar configuration of AR-15s, and other kinds I'm not real familiar with. But I just have this feeling they haven't caught on like they could. So what features would you guys think are the most important in a pistol caliber carbine?

I kind of had a concept for one that would be set up like an AR-15 and use AR furniture and maybe even carry handle, but would be made much more simply, be sized for pistol calibers, and feed from subgun mags.

Here's a paint version. It's like an AR in everything except that it charges like a FAL.

BRG -- one of the issues for me is the cartridge being used many times the companies put out a PCC and forget that the ammo is loaded for a short pass down the barrel. In the carbing they need to look towards minimum length barrels and compact size. This is one of the reasons I am seriously looking at one of the new feather usa carbines for hiking and backpacking

What problems does this cause when the barrel is too long? I've heard of the 10/22 actually losing velocity in a barrel longer than 18". Perhaps having say a 12" barrel with a 4" muzzle device would do the trick? Or increasing the mass of the bolt so that it has a slower initial velocity when cycling?

This one is like a cross between an AK (using an AK FCG), a G3 (recoil and charging system), and an M1 Carbine (mag well). It charges like an HK, handles like an AK, and feeds like an M1 Carbine.

Only prob is that it couldn't operate by recoil - it would have to be gas operated. Maybe some sort of short recoil system like the M82A1, but I think gas would be easier. Probably the gun for that would be an AK or an AR. I'm not sure, but it might even be too heavy for those.

its G -- the cartridges are loaded with a fast burning powder that normally stops burning after the first 4-6 inches. compared to rifle rounds which use a slow buring powder that continue to burn and build pressure in the barrel for a longer distance.

Here's the version based on the AR configuration and FCG Here's the version using an AK FCG, a G3 type cocking system, and an M1 Carbine type feeding system.
