im a rabid groundsquirrel shooter/hunter. cant get enough. livin here in the Sonoran desert, there aint no shortage of em. ive used anything from .45 Colt and .45 A.C.P. down to .22 rimfire. good shootin practice tryin to hit these lil vermin, like tryin to hit a 2"x6" stick at ranges from 10 feet to 100 yards. no deer in the area, gotta hunt somethin hehe.

I went to Oregon last month to shoot ground squirels.
I used a .223 with downloaded Blue Dot loads, a 17 HMR, and 10/22.

I like the .223 downloaded best, because it shoots flatter, blows 'em to pieces, and is cheap to shoot.

I like the 10/22 too, because of follow up shots while they are running. It is kind of like a video game.

jerry those lil coues deer stay down in the southeast part from what i understand, none here. no whitetail either, have seen some mule deer here but not many. would have to drive miles to deer hunt, this area is settled pretty good and a lot of farmland, with farmland you get a lot of illegal immigrants and less deer. from what i have heard up till about the mid 50s there were lots of deer in this area, guess they found greener pastures by now.
Clark, i can spend hours and hours just shootin groundsquirrels, i have a ruger 10/22 that i put a 16inch clerke barrel on with volquartsen hammer kit and extractor, no problems at 50 yards to hit em in the head and out to 100 yards it is more of a challenge but still fun. with this lil marlin model 25 ive been workin on, i think it is gonna give that ruger 10/22 some competition in accuracy if i do my part hahaha.
ive been known to use large bore revolvers on groundsquirrels and 8mm mausers too hahaha. cant seem to get rid of them lil rodents, which is good! more moving targets to aim for hahahaha.

I drove for 10 hours to get there.
Shot for 5 hours and drove 10 to get home.
It was worth it.
I fired 325 rounds and hit the squirel half the time.
I shot as close a 5 yards and as far as 100 yards, but there were enough targets at 30 yards, which is where I shot best.

I must have cleaned out an acre's worth of rodents, surrounded by thousands of acres of land that looked the same. Not all the land had squirels.

I would like to find something to shoot closer to Seattle.
