Model 99 question

I have a question for anyone with knowledge about the Savage 99. I recently bought (put on layaway) a Savage Model 99. The rifle is built in chrome and stainless steel. It has fancy etching on each side of the breech. It is in immaculate condition. I'm not sure what Model it is (i.e. 99C, D etc.). I'm trying to find out any information that I can about the rifle (manufacture date, value etc.) but web searches haven't turned up anything. I was thinking that maybe due to the fanciness of the rifle it may be a commemorative edition, but I'm not sure. It is chambered for .243.

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

savage '99

Go to savage99.com the site has a lot of answers to your questions and links to answer others. I used them extensively when I was buying mine. Also, go to GunsAmerica.com and get on the listing for savage '99's for sale and through pictures and descriptions more answers can be found. Orion

Ramboy,
I believe I've seen that one on the internet auctions. I'm really turned off by the chrome and stainless. Some "Bubba" got his hands on a 99 and *****ed it up royally! Your question was I believe what model...I'm guessing it's a model C (for clip) and post 1-million s/n crap. Prices are rediculously high on even the "gray rats" so if you want a collectable I'd keep looking further..

Thanks to Orion & Savage T

Thanks guys. Your expert advice helps a lot! I think this model is a custom job, that's all that I can find out about it. I paid $700 for it. There isn't a scratch on it, literally looks like it just came out of the box. Did I get taken?

Is the barrel Stainless as well? Or just the reciever?

It may be a model DE or Pe if the barrel is just blued.

Then the collector value would sky rocket!
