| Mark II scope options I bought a Mark II (my first rifle) in the fall to clear our pastures of groundhogs. Since then I've rubbed out all the dumb ones, and those remaining (and breeding) seem to be exceptionally sly. The result is that I'm having to take longer shots into darker places (like hedgerow type stuff), and the cheezy 4x scope that came with the gun isn't cutting it. I've been to "that giant store chain where you can buy anything" where I originally purchased the gun, but they couldn't help me. I admit a complete ignorance in the matter, but I can't seem to find a scope (or mounting system) for this gun. Could anyone reccommend something in the 6 - 9x 40mm or so range? Bear in mind that I probably wouldn't invest more than I paid for the gun itself in a scope for it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. "They" are multiplying as we speak. |

| I have a Mark II and before I even got the gun, my dealer put a new scope on. It's just a tasco but it works great for what i use the gun on.

| Well ksiubom let me say I have a Savage Mark 2 that came with a cheeze scope much like the one you describe. This rifle is awesome! Here is what I did to mine: I put on a Tasco 3-9x32, (really do you need a $300 scope on a 22?) I free floated the barrel.(Now before you run off know that this is VERY EASY If you have the Synthetic version. Take off your action and slowly and smoothly scrape the edges off the stock where the barrel touches the stock. The easiest floating job I ever did.) and lightened the trigger.( Warning! At your own risk!) While you have the action off take a allen wrench and start tightening the set screw. The set nut will fall off. I would not take it off much more than that. Cock your rifle and check the trigger pull/hammer fall always before you shoot your rifle. If you have to dry fire your gun to know how it feels then do so before firing. Better the rifle take damage than one of your friends. So that it is NOT dangerous. Set it at what you like ( in reason-safty first!) I have done this to my Mark 2 Savage. It is not the prettiest 22, but It hits what matters. I trim grass and branches at 50 yards with this thing.(When the longest shot comes into play, I have shot a groundhog at 170 yards. Not an everyday shot mind you, but with a lot of practice and some excellent ammo, I did it. And it is all stock-beside what little modification I have ever done.) Trust me: This is an awesome 22, if you use it right. If you want a cheap accurate 22 that is durable( with over 5000 shot through mine!) and accurate then the Savage Mark 2 is definatly not a bad choice. |
