I have a Japaneese WWII Type 99 in great shape, still fires, that I want to sell

I have a type 99 Japaneese rifle that I am interested in selling,, It is in very nice condition, and though I have never fired it. I was told when I inherited it that it is still in working condition and will still fire.. I have lots of pictures if any one is interested in seeing it. I am trying to lessen my load here. I live in Florida and due to the very active hurricane season, I have reevaluated all of the things that I have. I collect antiques so i have way to much to pack everytime.

Welcome to G&G. Sorry to hear about all that bad luck you all had in Fla. this year. We have a couple of other board members here from Fla.

What we don't have yet unfortunately is a sale board here. The guys who run G&G as hard as they work, havent' set it up yet. In the meantime to prevent problems, they would rather we not sell here.

There are some other places to do so if your interested, just holler.

Yep, the weather here is enough to make even us Fla, Crackers run for shelter...
I have been having fun reading alot of posts here. I grew up with 9 brothers and no sisters and I work from home so I dont get to talk to many people and the ones I do get to talk to are usually other mothers and they are not to sure what to make of me.. I am very out spoken,, (lol)
So it is nice to just join in and also learn. I am really kind of new to collecting antique guns and am still waivering on weater i really want to sell this one or not. I only know what I have read about it and what my family has told me , but, I have become very interested in learning more. I bought an old sears and robuck 22 this weekend at a yard sale, got shells with it too and shot it a couple of times. I also own a revolver, though i have yet to shoot that. any how I would love to have people to talk to.. and yes, i would like to know where I can sell, just in case i do decide to part with some,

I hope that the recent unpleasantness didn't do you too bad. We got real lucky here in Tallytown.
Sounds like the beginnings of a nice collection. I'm into the old milsurps (military surplus) myself, as well as collecting twentytwos. There's a wealth of info locked in the grizzled noggins on this forum. Just have to whack 'em upside the head to get to the memories . . .

If you have a range nearby, the best thing to do is take those guns out and practice, practice, practice! Ammo is a little harder to come by for the Japanese rifles, but there are sources. I don't have an Arisaka myself, but I'm sure someone here does, and can steer you to a source of ammo. Just have a gunsmith check the rifle first to be safe. Should cost next to nothing for a good inspection, and he'll identify any potential problems. We're talking some old guns here. I have some guns from the teen-years that I shoot - most likely that Arisaka is a good shooter too.
For good fun shooting though, your .22 rifle will be great. Is it bolt action, or a semi-auto? Inquiring minds . . . well, heck, we're just nosy about new member's guns.

yep, the Type 99 is a war trophy. I have huge respect for the men that have been there to protect us

and I think that this rifle is just so cool. I am really having alot of 2nd thoughts about ever selling it. expecially now that i have found some place where there are other people who get as big a kick out of it as I do. The .22 is a bolt action, and Ill tell you. I really like to use it. Like I said i shot it out back a few times, it really makes me want to shoot it more often. I do want to find a range nearby, the one that was closest to me was shut down so I will have to travel a little more south to find one. I am going to go look at another working antique on thursday. i cant remember what the guy said it was but he said he had some ammo for it also. I will call him later and inquire about the name again, maybe even talk him into taking a post dated check and waithing until thursay to cash it. I'll let you know what it is before hand though and maybe some one will be able to tell me if im paying a fair price for it.

I would love to hear some stories of any good deals you guys have found and what gus you like the best. as I said I am a begging collector. and i dont know much about guns but I Like EM'

thats great too many folks to me seem so willing to part with some ones hard won war trophy, or a family heirloom because they don't care for guns. i have my dad's minty M-12 shotgun, will never sell it, and i hope none of my girls do when i am gone.

as far as gun shows go, i have only been to the local show lotta junk with high prices, and the good stuff at unreal prices. but its a cheap thrill for me, looking and handling all the stuff.

You know if your girls know how much that gun means to you they will never sell it either.. I have a bunch of rocks that were my grandmothers, ( she raised me) and I know how much she appreciated them, they are not worth any thing to any one else , but , to me they are everything because they meant so much to her.. i will keep my gun. I am seeing much of that same sentiment and history in this rifle also. I know I would not like my self very much if I parted with it.. ( some things can not be bought )

I wonder if Lucy ever sold it? Best place in the short run would be a gunshow, which occur fairly frquently throughout Florida. We seldom see the Japanese rifles, and they sell quickly.

Hi, Lucy, Fred (Honcho) here, and welcome to this great forum!
I now have 4 Jap rifles, (yup, they DO multiply when you least expect it!!!) I have learned a good bit about the 6.5 and the 7.7 Arisakas, (T-38 and T-99 respectively), and can probably tell you about what yours is worth, if I could examine it up close, but a few things to look for, are matching numbers on all of the parts, especially the bolt, (it is usually marked with 3 digits, on the bottom side of the bolt knob. It will match the last 3 numbers in the serial number, if it is matching--) Another important thing to collectors is whether on not the "Mum" is intact, as that usually indicates a "bring-back" rifle from a battlefield. (The Mum, or correctly, the crysanthemum, is a symbol resembling a flower, stamped on top of the receiver. The "Mum" was the symbol of the Japanese Emperor, and all their armament, (including ships!), were marked with this symbol, signifying that it was owned by the Emperor. As a "face-saving" gesture to the Emperor, (Hirohito), Gen. MacArthur decreed that all Rifle "war trophy "bring backs", had to have the Mum ground off, or struck thru with a chisel. Ergo, those rifles with an intact Mum, are worth more.
The parts, rear sights, cleaning rod, and other pieces on the rifle also determine it's value, whether or not it has a chromed bore, (sigifying an earlier manufacture date, before emergency "shortcuts" were made), which arsenal made it, (that is determined by the "Kanjo", I believe that is the correct word--), and the Series, all are factors which determine value.
My good wife and I will be back down to our (Hurricane clobbered) house in Florida, after the holidays, we live in Kissimmee, don't know how close that is to you), so if it's not too far, I could tell you a lot more by looking at it. In the meantime, if you can copy the symbols on the receiver, (draw a picture of them and scan/email them to me), I'll hit the books and tell you more about what you have.
