Ugh... don't let WD40 get on your wood, it is a penetrant and will seep into every crack and crevice and will rot your wood. Some good old fashioned lemon oil works fine, or linseed oil, just keep stuff like WD40 and Kroil away from your stocks and make sure your gun is completely rid of the stuff before you put it back together.
