You aren't stupid - you are lucky! The Westinghouse Mosins are very sought-after. You are getting a very nice collection going. You go, Girl!! :guitar:
A bunch of us are green with envy.
The nice thing is, ammo for the Mosins is far easier to get, than for the Jap 99. If you can find a gunshow in your area, they'll have the 7.62X54R Russian ammo by the case, cheap! Otherwise, lot's of vendors sell it over the Net. Just Google on "7.62X54R ammo" - should get you lots of sources.
As before though, get the old rifle checked out before firing. It's getting close to a century old.

Where do you keep finding these great deals? Are ya single . . . ?

I have a 91/30 Mosin Nagant that is a great rifle. Indeed your Westinghouse sounds like an even greater one. Just to be sure that's what it is, do a search for Mosin Nagants and make sure that's what yours looks like.

No, Big Dog, she isn't single... that's what profiles are for finding out, remember? (Yes, I checked.)

But could ya mentor some of the young ladies up here to appreciate guns?

Hey Lucy, Welcome aboard! Since you are new to these, be warned, if the ammo that came with the gun is military surplus, it is most likely corrosive! That doesn't mean you can't shoot it, just give it a good scrubbing with Windex after shooting then clean and oil as usual.

Exclamation

Lucy, if the Westinghouse rifle is original, it's an earlier M91 - the most easily noticed feature would be the rear sight. It should be a very rounded design with large serations for the elevation adjustment. This sight was calibrated in a unit of measurement called the "Arshin", somewhat shorter than our meter (about 30 inches, IIRC). The front sight will be a simple blade.
All numbers on the barrel (over the chamber), the bolt handle, the magazine floorplate, the buttplate, etc. should be the same. This is rarely the case, as these rifles were "rearsenaled" during their long career, with parts swapped out.
If the rear sight is a lower unit with smaller serrations (the later meter-calibrated sight) and the front sight has a protective hood or ring - it's been converted into the later M91/30 design. This would reduce it's collector value, but it's still a good shooter.
And as stated, definitely clean well, as you would for a black powder gun. A good bore cleaner is Birchwood-Casey's Bore Scrubber at Wal-Mart. It smells strongly of ammonia, and will cut the corrosive salts from the old ammo (primer compound, actually). The swab out with regular bre cleaner like Hoppes, then oil it. If you let it go without a good cleaning, the bore becomes brown and hairy - no lie! And ruins the rifling.
Winchester makes a modern non-corrosive loading for the 7.62X54R, and any good gunshop should be able to order it. It'd be the stuff to use, for hunting or to see what the old gun will do with good commercial ammo.
Again, congrats on finding a nice rifle!

My "rapidfire" days are gone, and now I'm a "singleshot"!

But I do like encouraging new collectors of good guns.
Gotta keep the hobby alive!

Just as a word, hitting on the females as they start here is rather degrading to them. I mean some can take it as a joke, but not all can. It's something to keep in mind as a respect issue.
