.204 ruger?

Has anyone used this yet? Seems like a varmint blaster for sure

I haven't used one yet. But I am very impressed with the ballistics. And I have heard nothing but awesome things from the fellas who do shoot them. Hornady is an amazing company in my book.
I would love to have one , but I got to work on getting a 223 first. They are just to cheap to shoot.

Thanks to Hornady and Ruger there are still a few who like these little PISSANTS. Don't knockem till you triedum. I made a mistake many years ago when I sold my home made 17/222,and now building a new 17 REM Just for fun.
For 150 to 200 yds the 5MM is a kickass cartrage

Welcome Paul to G&G.
Sense my last post I have owned a 204 BB in a NEF, and loved! The only reason, and I repeat only reason I traded it off was I have way to many reloading supplies for .224 so my 223 Remington chambered barrels stayed and the 204 left. Though when I have more time and $$ I will get another 204....it is VERY impressive compared in real time to the 223.

I think its great. A buddy of mine shot 2 hogs, both of them over three hundred yards and one running. I asked him if he held over their backs and he said," no, I just put it on top of the shoulder." I thought that was pretty awesome! That bullet carries great and goes really fast.

The 204 is a good round, I just can't see it doing anything better than the cheaper and more readily available 223 can do.

The .204 Ruger in my opinion has the same fault as the .223 in that factory issue bolt actions stick with the 1in12"twist,limiting it to light bullets and limiting the range.The ones I have seen at the range with something like a 1in8" twist,using 50gr and 55gr bullets were making tight groups at 400yds to 500yds with the best at 500yds under 2" using a 55gr bullet.The rest of the problem was these were AR type platforms with high dollar uppers.The ammo had to be hand loaded and was a little pricey but still cheaper than factory loads with lighter bullets that made a 400yd shot iffy.I dont understand why bolt action mfg,s wont use a tighter twist which has been proven to stabilise heavier longer bullets and still do fair with light bullets.Maybe it,s barrel life. samuel.

I heard from some people at a gun store that i go to who use the 204 for reloading that they could not get the speed out of the cartridge. Apperently ruger is loading the cartridge with a new powder that is not available to handloaders. This site is GREAT!

Altho I havent tried reloading .204,s what they say may be true.It wouldnt be Remington so much as Hornady is using a powder with a progressive burn rate that makes the leverrevolution cartridges go faster at lower pressures and cooler gases.They also use a bullet that is unavailable for reloading,meaning if you buy the new rifles you must use loaded ammo to get the specs they state.Also the older slower twist levers wont stabilise the new longer aerodynamic bullets.So if you reload about all you can get is the same balistics .30-30 or such always had.I havent heard this is the case with the .204 but Hornady designed the cartridge.I do know the ones I saw on an AR platform with fast twist barrels and 50gr to 55gr bullets were great at 500yds and have read articles where they really worked on pd,s at long range.Dont expect this new powder to be available soon if ever as they have well over 100 powders out there and it sounds like this one with progressive burn rate would replace most of them. samuel.
