Good cayote/fox gun/shell

Well i have a 20 guage 3" chamber mod. choke shotgun. Will this with a 2-3/4" rifled slug be a good cayote gun or should i look at something diff. for a shell?

I think perhaps in most instances you will find it difficult to call a coyote close enough to use a slug. And if you do, there's going to be a nasty hole in that pelt.

If your not keeping the pelt and your able to get 40~60 yard shots I like #4 buck. I'm shooting a 12 but something in that area should work for the 20. I'd try 2/34 & 3"

The pic is 12 ga #4 buck at 45 yards Improved Modified choke. Standard 30" circle. This would be multiple hits on a dog. Has worked real world, standing and running afetr skinned had at least 6 holes in the dog.

If your really into cayote hunting you should think about a .223 or a .22-250, both rounds will easily drop a cayote and if you don't use balistic tip or hollow point it should leave the pelt in decent condition

i use a 22lr, 17hmr, 22mag and a 223 for cyotes around here the 22lr does a good job at night in close (under 60 yards) with head shots. the 22 mag and 17 are good daytime guns out to 150 yards. and when i'm field hunting i use the 223. for shots out past 150 yards. coyotes are tough criters but a well placed shot takes them down fast. i also have a 243 i use when the snow flies. its a good all around coyote gun at all ranges and is lighter than any of my other guns i use for coyotes.

The .22LR is to coyotes what the .223 is to deer. It can put them down, sure, but it won't do so in all situations, and there are much better choices available.

Most fox are smaller than coyote - its all in shot placement
