Considering the price of a Hi-Point and the improvement in quality (or so I have read and heard) over the past few years, it may be worth it to buy a new one. I know that I like the newer models I have handled better than the older ones. Also, Hi-Point is now shipping them in hard shell cases rather than just the cardboard box.

They are complete rip-offs of Glock, I believe the only difference is the trigger area, and they are dirt cheap.

well when settlement time comes around i plan on getting another ar15 and a few highpoints pistols i would like to get another glock and maybe another ak47 but i don't think i would be buying any s&w auto's i shot a .45 and it sucked a big one!!!lol everything i buy gotta be in 2's so i can pass them down to my two sons.

The first magazine "out of the box" shot a nice, tight grouping at the edge of the 10 ring. My wife likes the orange three dot sights.

Ok heres my 2 cents worth. I've owned 3 of the .45 old styles and 1 carbine. Loved them at first but boy did I start to have my share of problems! Had slide retaining pin shear at the range and broke my brother inlaws jaw. When I was finally able to talk to a real person from customer service I was told that it was my fault for using over powered ammo - Federal Hydoshok's- and the replacement pin was $5.95 + s&h, had my gunsmith buddy make one out of solid pin stock, free, safer and easier to use! A different .45 had a jam up, case was seated in the chamber except for like a mm. Couldn't get the slide back to clear it but the safety could be engaged, like I said before almost closed but not quite, the firing pin could be released but enough to get the saftey on. Ok no problem, lock it case it and take it to my buddy. Simple fix, probably just some grime in the throat, simple. First thing he did was the best, he places it in a firing barrel and drops the saftey and BAM! 230 grains of hardball into the water! No trigger, no sudden impacts, just dropping the saftey! Now the carbine! On the range I'm amazed at the recoil slap to my cheek bone from a 9mm. After a mags worth I'm done for the day, go home and take stock off and find thestock is thin, hollow plastic, nothing to buffer the bolt during firing. After some experimenting a pad of wool rubber cemented to the stock softens the recoil enough to make the day enjoyable. Amazing accuracy for a little carbine, tight groups at pistol ranges, 2-3 in. at 100 and consistant area target hits at 500 & more yards! Cool! Then the stock breaks just back from the pistol grip! Once again, customer service and MY FAULT, must of dropped it or something AND no stocks in stock, all backordered! All ALOT of shooters must be dropping their carbines! Fine, JB Weld and some fiberglass filler and the stock is now shootable again, HEY no RECOIL NOW! Another 500 or so rounds down range and now the %^&(! thing starts going BRRRP! and gets me kick off the range for having a full auto! Complete strip clean, no broken parts no sign of any reason that I can see for it to go ROCK & ROLL on me. Back together and now out to the Department range w/ the Departments Armouror. Sure as ^*T it goes BRRRRP through the whole mag, after 50 rounds the Armourer takes it apart finds that the sear metal is so soft its worn down. And once again no help from the customer service people. I donated all of the Hi-Points to the Department. The pistols had the firing pins ground and the bores plugged to make them non-functionable and are used in senerio training and the carbine is used to help train Deputies to get used to recoil climb on full auto, 9mm is much cheaper than .223 when your throwing it away like that. But warn anybody that asks about them to stay away.

well highpoint has a real good return policy they will fix anything that breaks at no cost to you so this must have been back in the stone ages when you had this gun.and did i read you corectly about target shooting with a .9mm at 500 yrds????

1996-2000, and area targets, but once you figured your windage & elevation you could usually keep pretty close to an actual target

Well I don't own one personally, but the top slide looks very close to my saturday-night-special Stallard 9mm. This Stallard is a total piece!
Not that Hi-Point is like that,(I don't know, I am as curious as Sniper MI about Hi-Point.) I just thought it was strange how close the slide looked to my total piece.
I am curious about Hi-Point though, and you all have left some good info.

www.mkssupply.com is the web site for Hi-Point. I also did a lot of Google searching before even thinking about buying one. I found a lot of reviews that I read in consideration...and then bought a Bersa. So, when the wife wanted another .380, I had no problem considering a Hi-Point.

you can have a lemon with the best of guns it don't matter what kind it is.you never know my next highpoint might be a lemon but then again it might just be as good as the first one i bought!!

A few things I found out today by making a few phone calls.

1. The .45 carbine is expected in about three months. Initial prices will probably be well over $250, which is about the MSRP just because of early supply and demand.

2. The 9mm and .380 magazines do come in a 10 shot capacity direct from Hi-Point for $18, including shipping, as opposed to the $15 for 8 shot. The 9mm and .380 magazines are the same magazine. Visa/MC by phone at 419-747-9444.

The guy at MKS Supply was very nice to talk to, as well. We had a great chat.

Cool! I've been waiting on that .45 Carbine! Gonna have to see if it can be modded to take 1911 mags. Those extended 15 rounders might be good for this gun.

So here I am...new member. I found this thread while surfing at work the other day, so I thought I'd throw in my 2 cents. I have a hi point 995 carbine in the gun safe I bought last year in a pawn shop bulk buy. I haven't even fired it yet, but since I found this thread I'm going to go do some testing. I never buy what I consider "junk" guns(no brand bashing here), but this one was different...it felt and looked decent. Mine was used when I picked it up; broken front sight, no rear sight, and slight rust on receiver. On the up side, it had the compensator installed, and came with 2 mags. So, out the door it went for $100. I took it home and haven't touched it until last week when I found you guys. Now I've tossed an old 3-7 X scope on it, and loaded up some hot 124 gr FMJ reloads. Maybe this weekend I'll go do a little shooting. Initial testing will be for feeding / reliability, as well as 25 yard accuracy. As far as the 2 cents goes...I like the look; maybe it's because I like "planet of the apes", maybe I'm an ugly gun kinda guy. I decided if I was going to test the open sights I was going to have to order a replacement set. So I e-mailed HI-point will all my personal info and requested ordering instructions...They informed me of their lifetime warranty policy and told me all the parts were already in the mail (maybe they'll be here today!). So for customer service / support, I give them a thumbs up. Next in line is the trigger...what can I say...it sucks. I haven't put the gauge on it yet, but I'm guessing 12-15 pounds on any given pull with no consistency. I'll have to open it up and see if I can tune the trigger. So, it's a big thumbs down on the trigger. The safety...it works. Stamped steel, not the best location, but like I said it works. I don't think the stock is as flimsy as most people say. If I get the time, maybe I'll open it up and figure a filler for the hollow stock. The receiver looks like it has endless possibilities for mounting "stuff". Scope mounts, lights, etc. Easy as drilling some holes and using machine screws if space inside permits. I'm not going to clean or strip mine until I range test it as is. I've read reports of the trigger smoothing out after some shooting....we'll see. I'll keep posting my results as long as I'm welcome here. Worst case scenario is a $100 Jam-O-Matic. SHOOTIST

Welcome to G&G, SHOOTIST357!

I like my 995 Carbine, and find it reliable and fairly accurate. I have a Chinese 4X scope and a BSA Red Dot both sighted in for this little gun.
One mod I'm thinking is to replace the cheesy sheet-metal scope rail with a good solid Weaver rail.
Another gripe is the trigger - not the pull weight, mine's not bad.
Problem is the shape - it gets painful on my trigger finger - just a bad shape. It could also use a larger trigger guard - my finger rubs the plastic guard.
Recoil slap is more than expected in a 9mm carbine - main trouble seems to be the shape of the butt-end. The lower part sticks back a bit more, and digs into my shoulder - a slip-on rubber pad helps here.
The factory magazine is good, but I recently bought two aftermarket mags. They have jammed a few times - the followers are different than the factory mag's. I need to adjust the feed angle.
The only real operating glitch is the cocking knob (a hex-head bolt!) tends to shoot loose after awhile. I may use a tiny bit of Blue Loctite next time.

I promise you most of the negative feedback about Hi Point firearms comes from gun snobs whos 500 dollar glock has been out shot with the Hi Point.

I bought the 9mm carbine 1st, was skeptical about the price but after 500 + rounds of EVER ammo avalible, even the wolf el cheapo brand, to the +p+ police ammo I've had NO jams, failure to feed.

with the original sights @50 yads from a rest I can shoot a 10 rd ragged hole.
My son bought a Glock model 17 in 9mm, paid right at 500 bucks for it.
Surprise the 9mm comp model from Hi Point groups just as well if NOT better with the +p stuff.

I also own more expensive guns S&W 40 CAL, USP COMPACT 9MM..........but my next purchase will be the 40 cal carbine.

As a side note I plan on taking a deer next season with the 9mm carbine, with the +p+ ammo and the extra 200 fps from the carbine bbl length if I pick my shots carefully I cannot imagine it doing the job.

I took a 95 lb doe this season with my SW40, I hunt from a tree stand in thick brush overlooking a 400 yd beanfield, altho I had my Rem 700 30-06 with me for longer shots, the temptation at a straight down shot possibbly 30 yds was just too tempting to pass up.

My advice buy one, if you dont like it contact me and I'll glady take it off your hands.

hmm hmm hmm...I'm thinking about getting one now in the next few weeks (thanks to doglips and other comments and given the slim nature of my pockets). I saw a guy shooting one at the range the other day and I LOVE the way it looks (yeah maybe I like ugly things).

hey i won't lie my little .9mm highpoint compact was more accurate than my .9mm glock. i did sell the highpoint when money was tight but i will get another one.the only people who complain about a highpoint are the ones who don't even own one and never did. go figure???????????????
