| I'm mostly into "screwing around" with rimfires - but of my C/F's, the Colt .45 reigns supreme! I just stocked up on cheap ball ammo - gotta screw around some next range day!

| Yep, if my place were to burn, it'd look like the fourth of July. Or Burt Gummer's place in Tremor's III - not quite as big though. Hey, gotta be ready for the SHTF day. Actually, I've been reloading the .45ACP, but I found some good ammo for a good price - just couldn't pass it up. And that 500 rounds ain't exactly a huge amount. Unless you're a California Soccermom or Senator. I once bought a few 550 packs of .22LR, a half dozen boxes of Rem/UMC .223 and about four boxes of Rem/UMC 9mm at Wally World - the counter girl says "why do you need all that ammmo?" I says, "I like to shoot!" I love that 'deer in the headlights' look they get. She thought I was stocking up for a year! I told her I'd have it all shot that weekend! Then she really got a weird look in her eyes. Hehehe.

| Super Moderator ![]() | For screwing around I'd probably use a 9mm like a Beretta/Taurus or Browning Hi-power. 45 would be for more discrete shooting and CCW.

| Senior Member | Wish I could stock pile ammo like that, I always shhot it as soon as I get it. When I got my first rifle (Enfield) my mom commented on all the ammo I was always buying, " Didn't you just buy three boxes yesterday?" "yeah mom, but I already shot it all" then my dad told her that I would soon die down on all the shooting, but I still can't keep enough around. |

ok hypothetical: lets say you keep your ammo in a gunsafe(which you probably do) but something is wrong with the door and sparks come off like when you open or close it. One of the sparks hit an exposed round, just right and it goes off. The sparks cause some more ammo to go off and starts a chain reaction. I know that safes are fireproof form the outside but not the inside (unless you're so paranoid that you fireproofed the inside). so what would happen, the safe would melt from the inside out. Catching you house on fire. I know this is so unlikely but it could happen right???

| Senior Member | Unless your ammo is covered with loose powder, TNT, or gasoline you dont have to worry about sparks hitting it. Even if your safe did catch on fire from the inside, if the door is closed there won't be enough air to supply the fire and it will exstinguish itself. |

| I don't think you have to worry about that happening. Like Thrawn said unless your ammo is covered in something flammable it won't just go with a single spark. I stock up on lot of ammo, If not for the SHTF day then just because I buy when ammo is on sale, I also reload and I tend to load lots of a caliber when I reload, then I move onto the next caliber. I don't even store my ammo in a safe just a stout metal cabinet with a lock. All powder is stored in an old office safe that I came by, and the primers are stored in another location. I feel comfortable with my arrangement, and I don't think that it is going to blow up anytime soon |
