Inexpensive air rifle

I am looking for an air rifle that is a pretty decent quality, but I don't want to spend too much. Maybe 75 bucks or less. I'd like it to be able to shoot the .177 pellets and BB's too. I just don't know much about these things, so I'm looking for some words of wisdom. Thanks.

Thumbs up

I bought my Chinese made .177 single shot air rifle at Cummins Tools for $19.95. Is that cheap enough?

And...it shoots decently, too. At 30 ft it will punch a hole through the end of an aluminum soft drink can. Took me a little while to get the sights zeroed in but finally it seems to be shooting fairly accurate. I had to completely strip the ugly finish off the original stock and refinish it, but now it looks pretty good. :target:

20 bucks huh? No, that's not cheap enough.

Seriously, sounds like a good deal, right up my alley. I don't want to spend a bunch of money on an airgun, you know?

Drop by wal-mart, I bought my son a Daisy 880s there for about 40 bucks, that includes a scope.

That looks perfect. Thanks Allen.

How does it shoot? OK? I'm looking for something to shoot in my backyard when I can't go out 'real shootin'. :uzi:

If you want to step it up a notch, you can get an IZH-61 for about 99 bucks. Anyway, that is what mine cost. It is Russian made and of target quality. It has an adjustable trigger and the thing is a real tack driver. It is imported, I believe, by EAA corp. Cocoa Fl. If you can get your hands on one of these you will not be sorry. It may not have enough power for rabbits, but if you want a quality air rifle under a hundred bucks it cant be beat. It looks like an assult rifle and has a unique 5 shot "clip" which makes it a repeater. It is loads of fun and not a kids toy.

except for the scope and the part in front of the trigger (name escapes me at the moment) it looks just like one i have out in the garage.. if its anything like mine it will be VERY accurate ... i was shooting empty .22 shells off the ends of upside down empty .270 shells without tipping the .270s from about 40 feet away with no scope. very fun, very accurate. just wish i could find a full auto one like at the fair, THEN i could have some fun

Take a look at some of crosman's products. Im sure you'll find something that you like. A cheap retailer would be www.pyramydair.com. I bought an air gun or two off of them. Excellent service.

I picked up a Crosman 1377C. It's a pump pistol, pellets only, and it's just over a foot long. I'm hoping to pick up a stock for it (retail $20). The barrel is 10.25'' long, and the groupings are a bit better than I can shoot (I'm a really good shot). I can hit a penny every time from 25 feet, and I've heard the thing will take down rabbits at 25 yards with a headshot (easy to land if you can shoot). It shoots around 510 FPS, give or take, which is just enough to put a crack in a penny if you shoot within 10 feet. I cracked a penny in half with the thing by putting the penny over a crack in the cement and shooting at it.

Bought a 2nd air pellet rifle about a month ago. Gave the first one to my son-in-law to get rid of some birds nesting around his gutter downspout.

My new air rifle appears exactly like kagome's in the post above, except that I bought it at Wal-Mart for the same price she posted. The specs listed in the previous post match what mine has exactly, and includes the scope, etc., too.

I'm still working on getting the scope sighted in at approximately 30 feet. My goal is to pepper my neighbor's cat which needs a little encouragement to stay home.

An associate has a Gamo??? Not sure of the spelling, that will shoot accurately out to 100 yds if I take him at his word. It also shoots at 1200 FPS, and though I have no reason to believe other wise…will it really shoot to 100 yards accurately or what?

I mean if it will it is the perfect thing to develop good rifle skills with for youth, women or just new shooters.

well even if can shoot out to 50 yeards it would still help you develop a good breathing technique and just learning how to shoot through a scoop. It helps me.

I agree with your statement…I just feel that stretching your yardage by 50 more feet makes the smaller movements more evident, and can assist shooter in making determinations as it relates to standard measures. Not that the same standard measures can’t be found at shorter ranges…just “feels” more appropriate, 100 YDS has been the proving area for me all my life, and I just prefer to stay there at the very least.

He asked for "cheap." I gave him "cheap." But...they work. That's all that is required.
