I still have the issue stuff they gave us in the USAF at Tyndall. A polyester-fur lined, wool insulated hood for my field jacket. Dad claimed the jacket, since it's way too small for me now.
I also have a fur-insulated flapped cap, that we called the "Mig15 Pilot's Helmet" - I have no idea where I picked it up. It's military issue, but I don't recall it being issued at Tyndall (Florida don't get all that cold!). It's a little tight, but I can still wear it on really cold days.
My gloves and boots didn't last long when I got onto the ship in the Navy. Line Handling detail wore the gloves out quickly, and the non-skid on the deck ate up boots like candy! I was going thru a pair of combat boots every six months! I was more careful with my wellingtons - only wore them to school, official functions or when I wanted to PO a certain uppity Chief. He kept telling me only E7's and above could wear them! I found in the regs that I was legal. I would also wear the suit jacket/vest/service cap "Alternate Uniform" (same as the Chiefs and Officers) when all the other lower squids were wearing the Crackerjacks and Dixie cup. Hehehe. I always got "outstanding" from the Officers - if looks could kill, that Chief woulda murdered me!
I always was a bit of a rebel.
