| old pistol restoring Hello everyone, I have an old (1930s?) H&R sportsman that was my grandfathers and I am wanting to refinish it. It was wrapped in an old towel and stored in his garage for god knows how long. It is mechanically sound and functions very well ( go figure). I have already stripped it down and removed the rust away. Just wondering what kind of finish can I apply to the gun. |

| Super Moderator ![]() ![]() | I'm not familiar with the H&R sportsman pistol...but I've got a 9 shot .22 H&R 922 pistol and have no idea of how old it is. ![]()

| yeah, the sportsman is a single action 9 shot .22. It is also one of the top break models of H&R pistols. |

| find a local gunsmith and have it hot dipped blued. anything else will probably end up looking tacky. |
