Question G3 Shockwave

This is probably a stupid question but i was wondering if it is normal for a G3 to give off a huge shockwave, or is my ammo too hot? Im using Sellier and Bellot .308 from the 80's

It's not the G3 itself, but Century Arms and the muzzle brake they put on their G3 builds in order to comply with the now expired 1994 AWB, covering the muzzle threads with a non-flash hiding muzzle brake, "permanently" attached either with a blind pin, welding, or silver solder.

So yes, it's normal, there's nothing wrong with the rifle or your ammo. The only thing wrong is that it was made more harmful to shoot due to a stupid law made out of comtempt for gun owners.

The good news: You can now change it. With the expiration of the AWB, you can heat the thing up red hot with a Mapp gas torch and screw off the brake with a sufficiently insulated wrench. You can then replace it with the US made attachment of your choice. (Just make sure it isn't one that has the same problem.)

No problem. The noise and blast are part of the fun! It'll clear the bench of those pesky hunters in no time!

The blast from the brake on my buddy's Bushmaster M4 type is enough to make his .300 WinMag seem like a puddytat. I can only imagine the blast from the century .308s.

From this it follows that any people you meet from time to time are merely the product of a deranged imagination.

:assult: :assult: :assult: :assult: :assult:

The G3 from CAI is very loud, mine scare the crap out of other shooters, almost every time they stop shooting until I'm done!!!

Very fun indeed to have the loudest gun in the range

There was a guy at the range the other day with one of those G3s (was a registered "assault weapon" of course). I had my m44 and a couple of mausers with turkish ammo. Pretty soon no one else was shooting

When I shot mine for the first time I didn't realize any significant muzzle blast or loudness.

Granted, I was doing the shooting and I'm sure that's the reason it went unnoticed.

In fact, I thought the recoil was quite mild...much more so than I expected.

So, I'll be looking at the first time I take it to, say, Ben Avery which has the nice covered over hang, and the tables that I always thought could have been made just a lil further apart, he he he he.

I once got in a "blasting Match" with a pushy guy shooting one of the big belted magnum rifles. He cracked of five whompers, then grinned at me. I banged off twenty thru my Spanish Lady. He conceded the issue! Packed up and left. Hehehe. My Lady speaks loudly!
Just be careful of what is under it too. That Century "Muzzle Blast Enhancer" burned a big hole in my GI Bench Blanket!
Be careful of the ejecting brass too. I generally try to get the far right bench - that brass sails a good thirty feet! It would really hurt if it hit somebody . . .

I live in larchwood its by the southdakota border

Youd think living in Iowa you could shoot any place you wanted, but where I live there are no ranges and no farms to shoot on (I live in a town) and the only place to shoot is on public land. but then old guys cut the fence that restricts vehicle access and come down with their atvs and chew us out because their farm is a mile away and their dogs dont like the noise. and then they threaten to call the cops.

Aside from the muzz blast another strong trait of the Cets is "flinging brass." If there's a cover over the firing line you won't notice it as bad, but get out in the open and a Cetme will throw brass 40 feet! We had one uncovered range & the other shooters would make me go to the far right lane when I got the Cet out!
