took my boy shootin' (ricky's 12 by the way)

well, first weekend of the year that was good enough to go shooting at the local gravel pit. we just took the .22's out. rick wanted to take my marlin 22 semi and was dissapointed when i said no. i told him it was time to learn more about shooting instead of watching the dust fly. what a good time, me, my boy, the 22's, and a federal bulk pack of copperwashed. for a boy of 12 he is a fine shooter and getting better every time. i have an Ithaca model 72 saddlegun that shoots pretty straight. ya know though, my old Cooey model 60 bolt(old weaver scope on it) is an unbelievable shooter. i've read how some of you guys shoot so i'm hopeing that i dont embarrass myself with this. i sighted the Cooey at 75 feet and i was able to keep the 3 shot groups within a 1/2 inch circle. the Ithaca can't put in a performance like that. good times.

My brother in law never wanted any of his three girls to even know what a gun was. Everyone was surprised when his youngest went into F.B.I. training and never having fired a gun before had no trouble passing the shooting course with a Glock 9mm. She's 20 and as of a few months ago still had never fired a rifle so I took her and my Ruger 10/22 and a few other guns out for some plinking. LOL! The girl is a natural. Shooting at a slow fire pistol target at 50 yrds and keeping it in the black from the first shot. I was impressed. I only wish my dad had lived long enough to see her shoot. He loved guns and would have been so proud of her. Ended up giving her the Ruger LOL!

I take her shooting every time she comes down, three or four times a year. She lives in Georgia and I live in Mississippi so I don't get to see her much. The other two don't even want to try. Here she is with a Cobray M-11

It's really cool, the only reason my girl Jennifer (she's 13) wasn't there was she had friends over for the night and she unwillingly had to stay back. I also took my brother in law and his son (also named Troy) with us, just a dang good way to spend a day. I'm a lucky guy though, both Jen and Rick have a good head on their shoulders. Common sense and quick learners, 2 really good qualities to have in a student. My oldest is more interested in boys(dammit). Good times.

And they say we don't spend enough time with our kids! Sounds like you all know how to have fun.
