Smile Competition with military bolt action rifles.

I've heard of a few gun clubs having competition with military bolt action rifles (Mausers, Enfields, etc.). I haven't found any near where I live. (East Tennessee) Is there a website for this type of competition? Any information would be apreciated.

Contact the NRA, and/or the CMP. The CMP (Civilian Marksmanship Program), they have a listing of many clubs and their activities. They're on the web at:

CMP Home

Other than that, talk to people at your local gun range, or the gun stores in your area. I am reasonably sure that there must be some competition shooting activity not far from you.

The competition was designed for the .30-40 Krag, and the 1903 Springfield, even though the M1 Garands, M14/M1A's, and AR-15's shoot in the same matches. Some shooters use "Match Rifles", which are bolt action rifles which have been accurized, and with Match Sights. Some clubs separate the scores for Bolt Action from the "Match Rifles", and Semi-Auto Rifles, so that may be true in your area. Most of the time the participants enjoy the camaraderie, as much or more than winning. It is supposed to be fun, and if it ceases to be fun, it becomes an ordeal. The question is then, "Why?"
