Lyman Alaskan Serial Numbers?

I was wondering if anyone has any information about Lyman Alaskan Scopes that were used with military 03A4 rifles. As I understand it, these scopes would have been serialized; However, I cannot find any information pertaining to where the serial number would have been located or the method by which the serial number was ensribed (electropencil, by the manufacturer...?) Any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks

They were inscribed as shown on the left side near the rear ring. I have no idea of the years-versus serial numbers. This is an Alaskan 2 1/2 power.

There are a lot of arguments as to wether the Lyman scope was really used. The best source of information on this is Bruce Canfield. Bruce writes for the NRA and has written numerous books on 03A4. I believe he once told me that the records show Weaver was the only scope issued. I'd check with him for anything on this, do a search on his name, he has a net site.

From what I understand the Weavers were the only ones that were used at the time of original assembly. The Alaskans were optional, but never used. The Alaskans were used later on some Garands and replacements for damaged Weavers that may not have been available. Thus ASlaskans were a replacement MOL on some later rebuilds.
