Thanks! I'm very happy with the way it turned out, but I'll never put another Tactical beavertail on another GI frame, I'll tell ya that! I spent many evenings with a Dremel, little files and fine sandpaper.
But it was worth it, sorta. You can see here how much reprofiling the rear of the frame took, these are both RIA GI models, one is the blued one above.
Looks good now though. But considering you can buy a new Tactical for $50 more than a GI, then have it blued, it's kind of a no brainer. Like, WTF did I do this? But I'm the only kid on the block with one like it.

Yes, it's pretty evident how much you had to bob off to make that beavertail fit. You may have put too much effort into it, but it's nicely done anyway.
If I may, some quetions regarding the blueing. Who did it? Did you strip the parkerized finish or did they? Cost?
I've been planning to do a gloss or semi-gloss Duracoat on my parkerized Tac and CS Rocks, but yours has me re-evaluating that plan.

I took it to a local gun smith shop called TJ's Firing Line Gunsmithing in Aurora, CO. Cost me about $230 I think, not really sure, been awhile. But I'm sure there's a ton of places on the 'net you could find that would do it too. I didn't strip it, I just did some mild dehorning of the sharp edges here and there.
You wanna see pretty? This is a Colt WWI repro that some feller sent to the Colt's Custom Shop for bluing. This thing is gorgeous!

That is the best looking 1911 I have ever seen in my entire life!!!

Lot more meat to remove off those frame horns than you thought, huh? If I'd known how much work it was going to be, I'd have just went and bought a Tactical model and taken it to get blued. But I do have the satisfaction of looking at this pistol and knowing I fitted it myself and it looks and works great.

I kinda thought the same way- Not just anyone could do it right
I still aint doin another one ::
Love my rock just ran 500 down range over the weekend ran flawless with a variety of ammo lots of fun even my wife liked shooting it tho she prefers long guns
Just bought a Rock to fill in for the Remmy R1 that has had to spend a lot of time in the shop. 300 rounds down range on Sunday without a hiccup, no matter what ammo I fed it. Nice gun, adjustable sights, checkered wood grips, better shooter than I am. (Thanks for the late heeded advice Jet Girl.) There's another Rock in my future. 1911's are like Garands, you can't have just one.
Looks like a 1911a1 to me , look behind the trigger 1911 should'nt be scalloped out.
Nope. Not scalloped out. That's a Colt 01911 WWI repro, originally in Carbonia Blue Finish, that was sent to the Colt's Custom Shop for that gorgeous Royal Blue job. You can even see the "WMK" suffix of the s/n. I have one just like it, only with the stock finish.
My Colt WWI repro on the right, the WWII M1911A1 repro on the left.
