Think I'm going to get a Kimber.

This will be my first 1911 i have decided to spend in the 7-900 dollar range. I have been looking around at local shops and on the Internet for a full size 1911. The Kimber custom seems to fit all my requirements and with a price tag of $750.00. Now that I have my mind 85% made up I'm bringing it here to get your thoughts.

Good idea

Kinbers are high quality and should retain their value.

If they haven't changed yet, the Kimber factory mags are kind of hit and miss. Wilson Combat mags are the best if you do have problems with your Kimber. Aside from the mags Kimber is a good value in the 1911 market.

I have had my Custom II since around 2005. It has been flawless in performance. Fit and finish is still good. The MIM parts have not self destructed.

My gun-wise friend who has more money that I picked Kimber. I think he has no reason to regret the choice.
Me, my 1911a are all RIA. And I own a Hi-Point as well, which was the first large caliber gun I could afford.

My Custom II came with a 7 rd mag not suitable for a $80 pawn shop gun. I got some of the KimPro 8 rd mags that are super sweet. They fit flush just like a 7 rd.

Check around on some of the 1911 forums and see what owners have to say about them. I've heard Kimbers quality has gone down in the last few years but don't take my word for it.

Kimber was my first 1911, too. I've not been disappointed with that choice.

Mine is a Colt 1911A1 purchased December 1968 about a week before the GCA1968 went into effect...she's an oldie but goodie...wouldn't trade her for six Kimbers. JMO.

Colt 1911's were the best until Colt started screwin' with'em in 1970 and beyond.

Personally I believe every pistol shooter should have at least one 1911 regardless of make. ****ed, they are so nice!
