| Yep, when I went up to Great Mistakes, and was one of the very few with a car, I was The Man! We OSVETS (Other Service Veterans) were the bane of the Chiefs on Recruit Side. Hehehe. They couldn't touch us! The Rickies had to run to/from chow - we'd stroll. Chief barks, Recruits! Why aren't you running!? Oh, Osvets - sorry guys." They tried to send me there on a friggin airline - I told them at AFES - "If I don't drive, I don't go! Give me POV orders!" I hadn't signed the dotted line yet! Later, when offered a school in California, I did the same thing - told them, "Screw flying, I'm driving!" Ah, the good ol days - I made out like a flaming bandit on travel pay! I was popular in C-school at Mare Island, California too. A hot Firebird, and big open highways! I loved it. Note to the Newbies going into service - the rules can ALWAYS be massaged! I bent and warped plenty of them.
