8mm Ammo Storage (Ammo in gen.)

I am placing this post here because I have posted here several times with regards to our beloved Mausers and alike and want to tap the knowledge of my fellow enthusiasts. I also placed this under "AMMO"
I am located in the North eastern US and have a question of storage. I have a shed attached to my house. It is insulated and sheet rocked as well as an insulated exterior front door for its entrance. NO HEAT!! It gets cold but not cold enough to freeze water. I have never taken the temp.
In the summer it gets hot but is cooler than the outside temp.
My questions are these. Can I store ammo in this kind of condition???
If so for how long?

Thanks, Barbade

Storing in that room would be no problem.

In fact, I've seen ammo stored over long periods of time in worse conditions.

Theoretically freezing temperatures should never be a factor.

Our boys carried, and stored, ammo in freezing climates in Europe, Alaska, and the like and I can't recall a story involving ammo problems due to cold weather.

Sometime back, I did an experiment where I put some reloads of my own in a plastic container with water in the bottom. Although the ammo was only in the water for a couple of weeks at best I figured if water/moisture was an issue two weeks should get bad results.

I fired them (although some would never suggest I do it...keep in mind it was an experiment I took responsibility for)......every round fired flawlessly.

There was no lacquer used around the bullet and neck nor was any used to seal the primer and primer pocket.

So, in short I don't see any problem and ammo (even some surplus we buy today) was mad in the 50s.

I blame ammo misfires, etc. on the cheap manufacture such as those in S. Africa, India, etc. and poor reloads or reloading techniques done by private individuals or the contaminated componets (bad powder, etc.)
