Are Savage rifles scarce?

It seems Savage Scout rifles are scarce in So Calif and what rifles are available are going at premium prices. Is this the norm for new Savage rifles or just an anomoly in Calif?

As popular as Savage rifles are, they are becoming hard to get. I have two 10FP 223's ordered for friends, and my gunshop has checked with seven of his suppliers, and all are out.

Just hang in there, the Scout is a excellent rifle. It's worth waiting for.

I've been waiting since late january for my 12fv in.308, every time I call the factory they tell me , we are going to ship some in a few weeks . Im getting tired of waiting and the money is burning a hole in my pocket, maybe I'll go and buy myself a Remington.

I have about given up on finding a Scout. The Remington model 7 is my second choice and they now come with a 20 inch barrel. I will need to add a peep sight and the Remington is costlier to begin with but I should be able to find one.

I was unaware that so many paople are having trouble obtaining these rifles. I have always like Savage because it is quality and affordability in one package. I'll talk to my dealer down here and post his response later today. i need an excuse to go to the toy store anyway. I'll tell the wife that it's strictly for research reasons!

I am in Socal also and Know where two of them are right now. Both in the Westminster /Huntitngton Beach Area. One dealer has his price way too high( I bought my Scout from him but not at his asking price, wouldn't do it again though.) The other place is asking $499.00 which is a little lower than MSRP. It is a great rifle and a lot of fn to shoot. hard to say about accuracy for me as I have had a devil of a time getting it sighted, but that's my problem. others that have fired my copy are hitting point of aim at 100 easy.

to the gent regarding the Remington. i thought about doing that to befor I got the Scout but you're way better off to wait or find the Scout. Maybe you could find one in Shotgun news and work a deal with your dealer as he can't get one himself.

I just recently bought a post 1951 vintage (not sure when it was manufactured) Model 99 in .300 Savage (w/Bushnell scope) from Cabelas. Check out their gun library. Go to "www.cabelas.com" and click on the Gun Library. All I did was send them an e-mail (or call) and ask about their inventory. If they don't have what you are looking for, they will keep you informed. They get different guns of all makes in all the time because there are folks selling their guns to them all the time. They can give you a fair estimate of value on anything you want to sell also.

I've heard that Savage builds their rifles in lots, making all one
kind then going on to another, so if the warehouses run out of
a popular model, you have to wait till they (Savage) makes
another batch. Has anyone else heard this?

My local ffl dealer told me the same thing about Savage making rifle models in batches. It's a good thing I am not in a hurry for a Scout.

Batch is realy "RUNS" same meaning but in runs, they do 1000 at a time, since they have a very limited work force ( which keeps prices down) when a RUN is down, they go to the next cal RUN. Barrels are not kept in a inventory so that's the reason for runs
S&W does the same thing

Scout has been taken off product list til 2005, they are re tooling it
