You've got to have a steady rest to sight in. Never try to set any kind of sights shooting off hand. If you've got access to a range by all means use the bench rest. If you shoot in your back yard use a small table with some books stacked up on it. If nothing else brace across the hood of your truck. (not the best idea but better than nothing)
