| Allo. I'm also new to the site, so I thought I'd just jump on the bandwagon and introduce myself. =)
I'm Hounddawg's daughter (the one who got in trouble at school for wearing a Barrett shirt) and I'm 15 years old. I'm not particularly new to shooting, but compared to most of you, I'm just a newb. The only type of weapon I haven't fired would fall into the range of artillery and full auto. I was bitten by the shooting bug when I was 13 and in South Africa when Hounddawg let me fire a clone of the Browning Match .22. From then I've fired probably every commercially available calibre, from air rifles to the 50 BMG. That's the fortune part of knowing people in gun smithing and having them trust you enough to do test firing. Hounddawg works parttime at a gunsmithing shop with a shooting range, and it was kind of put onto my shoulders to test fire/sight in the reparied weapons, unless of course Hounddawg thinks they're unsafe to fire, in which case he doesn't let me.
I'm still in school and I'm a member of the AFJROTC program. I can't decide whether to pursue a career in the military or as a wildlife journalist for magazines like NG. If I do go into the military, I want to go into the SpecOps units that require snipers, but I'm not sure how they would feel about a girl laying out people for the good of the greater community. If any of you read my post under Hounddawg's name in the Military Firearms - .50 Sniper Video, you would know that yesterday I fired a Barrett Model 99 and I am still in ecstasy over it, nor was it too bad of a shot. =)
I currently own four rifles and one pistol. I have a Colt .22 Match Pistol, a Crossman air rifle, a K31 (Schmidt Rubin) Karabiner 7.5x55, Spanish made Kentucky long rifle in .45 calibre, and a Hawken rifle in .50 calibre. That will be my muzzleloading hunting rifle and the K31 will be my centerfire hunting rifle.
I gues you could say that I'm pretty normal for a teenager, but I don't embrace any of the stupid liberal ideas of gun control and spending my life indoors like most of the pasty kids of today who sit glued to their tv's and computers. I don't know where I'm going to find a boyfriend who isn't pure white from lurking in the darkness of their rooms all day, little vampires with no backbone. -.- I'm very competitive and I've already won one competition (informal) with a borrowed .22 rifle of my grandfather's. I was the only person in my age group, so naturally I won that category hands down, and came in second to an old guy who was shooting an Anshutz and probably has been shooting over 45 years. I suspect that I beat most of the old guys, not because I shoot better, but because I see better. =D
I currently am working for the summer at a place called Dixie Woodworks. We make custom furniture, and practically anything else that is made with wood. My employers once made a whole kitchen outfit with suspended cabinets and it made an international woodworking magazine, so I guess I'm learning from the best. Right now I'm working on turnings for 10 chairs that will be going along with a 12 ft. dining room table, all made from quarter-sawn white oak. I've been working there for about 3 weeks, and I've only wrecked 2 pieces, which I guess it pretty good, seeing as I'm new to this.
Unlike most teenagers, I (at times) realize that I don't know everything and will sometimes follow the advice I ask you guys for. =P
Well...this is basically my story so far. It's not as long as most of yours, because, well, I'm still just a whelp. =D |
