Howdy and welcome Mini Dawg and bluetruck99 :right: Always glad to see new members introduce themselves right up front. Gets you off to a great start. But...you'll need weeks to learn about all the regulars on G&G.

Mini Dawg...I admire your spirit, enthusiasm and determination for your activities. And...I was interested in your latest job at the cabinet shop turning legs for furniture. Three weeks ago I was given an old wood lathe, Power Kraft (Montgomery Wards old brand), probably made around 1950 +/-, with capacities of 10" swing and 28" between centers. Since bringing it home I've totally disassembled every part that is possible to be taken apart and am in the process of totally reconditioning it to be returned as much like original as possible. That means it'll be painted gray and trimmed in red. I've had to remove more rust and grime than any power tool should ever have been allowed to accumulate...but hey...when I picked it up it was stored outside gathering dirt and moisture...not a good thing for sure. :insane:

Before stripping it down I tested it's operation and was able to turn a six inch nut bowl using the face plate and I turned a tool handle between centers. Everything seemed to work ok except the main headstock bearing, which I replaced.

Ok...nuff on wood turning...since this is a gun forum. I've got many hobbies since I'm a retired public high school teacher and later an adminstrator. When I was teaching I taught a variety shop courses, including wood working. Earlier in my career I also taught science courses as well as industrial education courses. I finished my career as director of operations of a large school district in the suburbs of Kansas City, MO and now I'm a full time volunteer of this and that, but spend one day each week, year around volunteering as a carpenter for Habitat For Humanity. My other interests are...tennis, babysitting with my grandkids, hunting, traveling, and of course collecting guns, and my wife and I have been married 44 years.

Ok...that's enough about me. Glad that you two have joined our group. Hope to see your posts in the future.
