| Super Moderator ![]() | Shooting paper, shooting small animals, shooting inanimate objects. Yup, that's all I can think of. Welcome to Gunandgame! If you like Hi-points, I have a feeling we'll never see the end of NRAEric vs NRAJoe (who mocks Hi-Points compulsively.)

| Moderator ![]() | Boat anchors... too light! flower vases... too skinny! hammers... too soft! I use mine for what it's designed - fun sport shooting! It's a good gun to introduce and train new shooters on too. NRAJoe just doesn't appreciate it's finer qualities. I'm looking forward to the .45ACP model.

| Member | So your the NRAJoe that G3 was talking about. Whats wrong with hi points? I know they aren't a glock but still since I don't make much money(I'm not even in college yet) they're about as good as I'm gonna get. Besides I live in New York (I hate pistol permit laws, don't you?). |

| Senior Member | Are you open to other suggestions? You might want to look into Kel-Tec SUB-2OOO ![]() they are a little more expensive than a Hi Point, but you can get ones that take S&W, Glock, Keltec, Sig or Beretta mags. IMHO they are a better buy than a Hi Point

| Super Moderator ![]() | NRAJOE makes fun of Hi-Points because he likes doing it. We joke that he's secretly the owner of the company. He calls us names in return. We all have fun.

| Moderator ![]() | For anyone who's tall and long-armed, the Kel-Tec is way too short - to the point of being extremely uncomfortable to shoot. For those of us who like decent adjustable sights, the Kel-Tec sights are an abomination. Put an optical sight on it, you lose the folding feature, one of it's two major 'features'. The other is it's capability to take high cap mags. This last is the only good thing it has over the Hi-Point Carbine. For those on a budget, wanting a good reliable 9mm carbine, the Hi-point is hard to beat.

| Super Moderator ![]() | $400? Yes indeed. You can get either a Romanian WASR in one of three calibers, or a Russian Saiga for much less and then cost of parts to convert to standard configuration. $400 will buy a WASR, tax, a few mags, and a few boxes of ammo. They're generally in the $320-350 range.

| Senior Member | Yup, 7.62X39 is the cheapest ammo you can buy (sans .22 lr). You can't beat 13 cents per round! Plus the AK is the most reliable, fun platform out there.

| Moderator ![]() | IMHO, a good $150 unissued Yugo M59/66 will give you better accuracy, be as reliable and certainly as fun as any sub-$400 AK out there. And the extra cash saved buys a couple cases of ammo. I have a cheaper AK, and while it is fun, I find I like shooting the SKS's far more. Maybe that's why I have three SKS rifles and only one AK too. Even my Norinco and Sino-Soviet SKS's put the cheap AK to shame. A top-o-the-line AK may be a whole different ballgame, I'll admit.

| Senior Member | Perhaps I am a bit lost. What now exactly are you looking for? A cheap to shoot rifle, or pistol? Do you want shoot close up with a 9mm, or do you want to shoot a bit farther? -If you are going for an inexpensive pistol, I say go for a Kel-Tec. Or look around at your local dealer or pawn shop and you can find a used Ruger 9mm for pretty cheap. -If a rifle is in your sights, then I would say SKS. Or maybe you might want to consider some other Mil. Surplus like a Mosin Nagant, also cheap to shoot. |
