Hi Point carbines - Page 2

Im just looking for something I can have some fun with at around 50 yards or a little less.

Well an AK or SKS would be more than efficient for what you are looking for, and you always have the option of shooting a little farther if you like.
Pistols are a whole different ballgame. Have you ever considered buying a NEF Handi rifle or a Rossi chambered in 357 or 44Mag?-yes I said it again :gangster:
Awesome for the range you are talking about. And brand new at Wally world for around $170- $200, cheaper if you find one used. But for the same amount you can get a nice SKS too, or a couple Mosin Nagants-and be able to shoot even farther...Ahh choices.

I'm also looking at possibly a marlin in .357 (I could use .38 specials in it right?)

Yep, the .38s work fine, though you will have to clean it well after shooting them. Just like shooting .22 shorts in a .22LR gun, the shorter .38 Spcl will leave a crud build-up in the chamber, making .357s harder to chamber.
My buddy has the EMF lever-action in .357Magnum, and it's a lot of fun at 25 and 50 yards. If you get into reloading, these calibers are among the cheapest and easiest to do.

The marlin carbine or the SKS would get my vote for your situation.

SKS is definitely a great fun gun. Will load faster with 10rd strippers than a hi-points 10rd detachable mags. Not good for home defense due to overpenetration. Good for national defense though.

Leverguns in 357/38 are also nice for fun, if you like leverguns.

Well I have never been hit/nor do I want to be, with a 7.62x39 much less 10rounds. But I believe it would stop me in my tracks fast enough. Though I can't talk from expireance

Problem with HD is going through walls and striking innocent people. When its war and you're outdoors, that's less of an issue.

well a 7.62x39 is a lot like a 30-30 ballistically. And I held a Kel Tec today and im definaltely not buying one(The stock is too short and it feels uncomfortable). I held a hi point carbine and it felt perfect in my hands....Thats something to pick up. Besides the ammo doesnt cost an arm and a leg and it is fairly accurate too. I think I'm just going to buy the hi point.

Eric consider this; High points have plastic parts, not composite, not hardened carbon material, but PLASTIC. They have a very low resale. I have a friend that went to sale it to a pawn shop and they only were going to give him $20 for it. The trigger was plastic and would wiggle ,ore than 1/8" of an inch.

For the $150 or more I have seen them I would seriously reconsider.

SPOCAHP ANAR consider this; They have a FULL LIFETIME WARRANTY!!!!! If something breaks on it then send it back or order the part. And If Hi Point closes then whats $150 lost. Besides if Hi Point did close then their gun values would probably increase (Much like Intratecs).

Eric there is alot to be said about a LIFETIME WARRANTY; however, a good warranty is no substitute for quality or reliability. They probably are fine guns but there is something about them that just irks me.

But hey I am a STAR nut but a friend says he wouldn't own one because the QC isn't as good. But then again he's a cop.....

If you want one then I would get one as a toy, something to play with; not as a defense or hunting weapon.

Yup, I'd rather have a gun with a limited warranty and not have to need it, than to have a gun with a full warranty and have it in for repairs every couple months

I've had my Hi-Point Carbine about two years now, and have fired a few hundred rounds thru it, of Winny, Remmy, Federal and Wolf ammo. Zero problems. Accurate, reliable - yeah, Id' trust it.
It does well with a 4X scope and a Red Dot sight.
All it needs is a hi-cap magazine.

They sell 15 round magazines that are new production. Pro Mag makes them. They stick out of the bottom much like the UZI magazines and looks like something I could pick up out of state.

They probably are fine guns but there is something about them that just irks me. But hey I am a STAR nut but a friend says he wouldn't own one because the QC isn't as good.
