Hi Point carbines - Page 3

Just got back from the Raleigh gun show. I only saw ONE Hi Point carbine. It was at a pawn shop's booth. It was a 9mm in camo with a red dot scope on it. They wanted $200 used, so it stayed there. I did get the wife a new .22 pistol, though.

Your right. If you have the money and it won't set you back, then I say go for it. Should prove to be a fun gun, if nothing else.

If home defense is one use, and if you want a quieter round, and expect to use it for short range only, than the Hi-point is fine. But you may get sick of reloading those mags and shooting at such close range, and holding such an ugly gun, and decide you need an SKS.

you go shootin that sks in your house and you just might shoot right through the bad guy and the wall and into your kids bed!!!!! that highpoint is a perfect home defense gun . you need to think of what or who is sleepin on the other side of the bad guy. you don't want to shoot through him just into him. after seeing a sks penetrate a 8'' to 10'' tree and go striaght through it i don't think it would be a good thing to fire it at someone in your house(unless it's all you got).

I know of no other manufacture that makes a little carbine in a pistol caliber, for the price of the Kel Tec or High Point. I think there is room on the market for another couple models in this kind of application. At least make one that looks a little cooler. I understand look aren't everything, man you should look at a couple bangers I have picked up-not pretty, but fun to shoot. As long as you are happy with your decision then thats all that matters.
You could always cut down a Rossi or NEF in a 357 or 44Mag. Then you only have one shot at a time. Still fun though.

well i ain't gonna be killin my kids with no guns . besides that you gotta clean up the mess anyway. if you got a clean shot then go for it but if not i would not take the chance .after all you are suppose to be protecting your family not putting them in more danger right!! your gonna fire off a round at the guy and then hear two things drop .but then again your family member might be still sleepin so you wont know you hit them too until you go to wake them up and notice the blood .then it's too late. over kill ain't worth it!!

I'm not really going to be using the hi point for defense. I've got a Remington 870 for that purpose. If you had to use it though, it probably could save you. I mean it's better to have something that can be used with ease than to be messing with a gun to try and get it to work.

I have been holding out for a good deal on a Hi-Point carbine before buying one. I have seen the wholesale prices, used prices, and retail prices. I have been just plain waiting and looking. Today, I found one gently used 9mm 995 model that I was interested in. Out the door, including sales tax and a box of ammo was $100 even.

I talked to the Hi-Point factory just today. The lady on the phone said that the .45 carbine was still being worked on before being released. No, don't have a class 01 FFL, just a shopper at retail establishments. I called MKS for information. He sent me two t-shirts for being a Hi-Point owner.

The factory told me that they have a used purchase reconditioning and inspection program. Today, I was offered the opportunity to send my used 995 to Hi-Point, have them give it a thorough inspection, replace any worn or bad parts from prior use, include a new magazine, and ship it back to me at no charge. I have to ship it to them at my expense, which I would expect to do, anyway. I originally called about ordering new magazines and a sling with swivels. She offered me the special they were offering on two mags and a butt cushion (have enough cushion in my butt for now), and I declined. After she found out that I purchased it used, she offered me the reconditioning program el freebo. Can't argue with that. I will be sending it off in the next few days.

I took the 995 out and tested it today. It fired reliably and accurately. It kicks just a little more than I expected, but still shot great out to 25 yards (the length of the indoor range).
