| Senior Member | Why not upgrade to the 17HMR if you are looking to get the most out of rimfires? The shells are a little expensive, but it's a great round. I have several 22's a 22Mag and a 17HMR. Out of all them the 17 is hands down the most accurate of them. It shoots flatter than the 22Mag and faster too. |

| Registered User | .22 long rifle is still your best bet. With a good .22 HP round, it is plenty for rabbits, accurate to about 75 yards and best of all.. CHEAP to shoot. The magnums and all are wonderful, but really won't do any more than a .22lr at two or three times the cost. You can still buy a carton of .22s for less than $15 and shoot the sucker forever. Since most of what we shoot is cans and targets anyway, what the heck? I am a pretty good shot, but not too much danger to a running jack rabbit. When I want to get serious, I use my high power rifles and handloads, of course. Soooo much more satisfying when you miss. Gives a much bigger cloud of dust. |
