Considering that the Cali DOJ has determined the threaded barrel to be too deadly for it's subjects, the removal of the thread cap would most probably be illegal. Darned shame, that they make the manufacturer mess up a good gun.

Of course, most epoxies (if that's what they used) will fail if exposed to high heat or freezing cold.
Don't tell 'em I told ya. I'll deny it . . .

Do you know what it was "chemically welded" with?

Your best bet would be to ask on http://homegunsmith.com/
or http://www.practicalmachinist.com/.

Make sure to point out that your question is for academic purposes only.

More info for you, rom http://www.loctite.com/
Quote:

Q: What solvents can I use to remove liquid Loctite materials?

A: Most organic solvents are effective in removing anaerobic and cyanoacrylate adhesives. Chlorinated solvents are most commonly used. Dry MEK and acetone are used on applications using instant adhesives.

Q: How can I remove a fastener that is "permanently" locked in?

A: The application of heat is needed to remove a fastener that can't be removed with a hand tool. Temperatures of 325F and above is needed to break down a standard anaerobic, 500F for high temperature Anaerobics. A heat gun or propane torch is commonly used to do this process, and careful disassembly should occur while parts are still hot. Once apart, and cooled, use methylene chloride (Chisel #79040) to remove cured excess material. Always wipe down the fasteners with clean up solvent to remove the wax film that Chisel leaves on the surface.
I've read at
http://www.findarticles.com/p/articl...12/ai_n9470704
that

Paper chars at 405 degrees F and most ratings are based on the amount of time it takes the internal temperature of a safe to reach 350 degrees F when exposed to an external temperature of 1,200 degrees F.
so it goes to figure that if you subject your steel part to
325F you probably won't damage it,
but i'm no metallurgist
