| Banned | Need a little help with a red dot Ok, my brother-in-law had a red dot mounted on his AK. He had bought one of the tri rail receiver covers from Centerfire. The box said it was a weaver style base. Ok, so I bring home the red dot cause he doesn't want it on there anymore. Now, theres a bar that runs under the ring, is that supposed to fit down inside the groove on the top of my receiver? I've never mounted a red dot before so hopefully you all will know what I'm talking about. I'm so confused..... Anyways, if it IS supposed to fit down between it, the bar under the ring is to big for the groove on my receiver. |

| Super Moderator ![]() | Wait a sec... on second thought, if you ARE talking about the aluminum receiver, do you mean that the screw that tightens the ring onto a weaver rail is too wide for the notch in the weaver rail on your receiver? If that's the case, a new set of scope rings would be in order. If the red dot has an integrated clamp for the rail and the screws are spaced incorrectly for the notches in your receiver's weaver rail, you'll have to cut a notch to accomodate the screw in your receiver. Normally this might void the lifetime warranty on your receiver. However, Federal Arms is out of business. Warranty Schmaranty.

| Super Moderator ![]() | Hmm, do you know the ring size? Because if it's a standard size, you could just get another ring to fit and make sure its tightening screw is the correct size.

| Banned | I don't know the ring size. How can I messure to find out? I'm just wondering if this isn't a pictinny(sp?) mount instead. I think that a weaver mount would work in a pictinny, but not the other way around because of the different groove size. |

| Super Moderator ![]() | Then there you have it. See about finding a 30mm ring and makesure the screw is the right size. That is, if that's the internal diameter of the ring and not of the objective lens/panel.

| Banned | Well... I went to Wal-Mart(mistake), and three local gun stores/pawn shops. The three gun stores told me that what I have is a picatinny ring, and not a Weaver. To make a long story short, I can buy an Aimpoint 30mm Weaver ring for like $24.00 http://www.riflescopes.com/products/..._30mm_ring.htm But, I don't know. The red-dot is a SPOT Mark III, I think. New they go for $150, but I can buy this one for $100, and had probably less then a 100 rounds go through the rifle while it was attached. The thing is though is my end goal is put a Bushnell Trophy 3-9x40 Mildot scope on it. However, this red-dot would go good on my future AR build.. |

| Banned | Well, at 50 yards I was 3-4 inches low(I know realize I was an idiot though because I had the rear drum set to 400 meters) and like 5 inches to the left. At the time though I had no idea how to adjust the sights. I'm going to take it out this weekend and see what I can do. |

| Senior Member | Here's the Weaver mount I use on my 870 ![]() as you can see from the pic, the slots are .140 wide, sorry I forgot to measure the depth. The square posts of my red dot measured .136 wide, so they have about 4 thousanths clearance, I think thats standard for weaver mounts. I hope this helps

| Banned | I did a rough comparison last night with a flat-head screwdriver, and yeah, there's not a lot of difference, but just enough. As I posted earlier, I still don't know what I'm going to do. Not one place in town has a 30mm Weaver style ring. The best I can do is order it off of riflescopes.com and get it here by sometime next week. Or on the flip side I could just give the red-dot back to him and order a scope and mounts and get those in by next week also. I don't know, got some thinking to do I guess. |
