Range report

Well, after looking like a retard in front of 4 other people, I'm buying a scope first thing tomorrow. When I got to the range I went to adjust my rear site, and the thing wasn't even tight. So I put a target out at 50 yards, set the drum to "2", and fire three rounds. Walk out, nothing on the target, hmmm. Ok, shooters error. Go back, line up, three more. Go back out, hmmm, nothing. At this point I pull it in to 25 yards. Line up, 3 shots, groups good, but about 7" low. So after cursing the sights, I pack up and leave. Hopefully I'll have my scope mounted and sighted in by next Saturday. Oh, for anyone who has mounted a scope on their G3, with normal mounts, how does the cross hair sit compared to the front sight?

The things a blast. I enjoy my G3 more then my brother-in-laws M4, plus, this isn't the type of weapon alot of guys around here have. Once I get the scope on it I'll post another report of how it went.

Well, I mean, the red-dot I thought I would put on it, when it's mounted to the top of my G3, the red-dot would sit I think alittle above the top of the front sight. Just didn't know when you mounted a scope on these things where the crosshair would be compared to the front sight, get what I mean?

Sounds like you just need to fine tune the elevation. Does the front sight adjust like the CETME sight? A special tool is needed to turn it up and down.
Of course, the HK probably has the elevation adjust in the rear sight.
If you get it centered at 25 yards, the .308 should be about right for 200 yards.

I'm not 100% sure about the front site. I'm going to order a scope today so this weekend I'll have plenty of time to mess around with it. One site I found on the web about the HK91 didn't mention anything about how to adjust the front sight.

I'm not sure how well you'll like the scope, my G3 didn't shoot well with a scope and I went back to the irons. You'll probably have to remove the rear sight to mount the scope, the front sight shouldn't be a problem. I would try to adjust the way I aim first, with my G3 I have to hold the front sight high in the rear V. There have been a few of those rifles where the barrel isn't true to the receiver, and those will never shoot right.

Well, I'll try the scope and see what happens. Hey, if the scope doesn't work right with the gun, that just means I need another gun for the scope :full: .

I know how that goes, I've got a scope sitting on my reloading bench just waiting for a rifle to go on. Hey I just realized I now have a excuse to get that 17HMR I've been looking at.

Glad I could help

Well, I just got back from ordering my scope. I went with the Bushnell Trophy 3-9x40 Mildot. He already had some quick-detach rings for a weaver base in stock. So I think for the rings and scope it's like $115, or right around there. The scope should be in Thursday afternoon.

After all this teasing, you know you're required to post pics once you attach it

Are you kidding? I hate threads without pics . Five minutes after I get it on I'll have a 56k warning on a new thread.

Pred...Otter...

what type of scope/sight mount did y'all use?

The claw version or what?

Can I get feed back on what you think of the mounts out there because I'm thinking about red dotting my CETME.

Dale, I'm not using the claw version. Hopefully by Thursday night or Friday afternoon I'll have pictures up.

I put Weavers on a Blazer 8x32x44mm, turned out the scope wouldn't hold windage. I had to remove the rear sight because I couldn't find scope rings high enough to clear the rear sight.

Thumbs up

Look around on Ebay, and you can find some high see-thru rings, like my Spanish Lady wears. Depending on the scope bell size I can often still use the irons with the scope attached.
Current scope is a matching camoed Chinese 6X42 with the German reticle (pointed lower bar, two finer side bars) - it holds zero very well and I can use the iron sights.
If I put on the 4.5-14X40AO scope, I can't use the irons - but it greatly extends my shooting distance!
