| My new baby http://www.marlinfirearms.com/firear...fles/1894C.htm I ordered a Marlin 1894c in 357 a couple of days ago. It's gonna be my "do everything" rifle. Hunting, self defense, general purpose and SHTF. I won't have a chance to hunt with it this year. I would need to get it sighted in and find a good load but I'll definitely be using it next year. This year I'll be using a Marlin 336 in 35Rem so that'll drop Bambi just fine.

| That sucks. I'd love one of those 1895Gs in stainless - but they are pricey for a lever carbine. |

| You have a fantastic rifle - enjoy it. FYI the Remington 140 gr. JHP is a good deer load in that rifle. It's a favorite up here. |

| Great rifle, had one, had to sell it, regret it to this day. I want a new one, but will probally wait till they come back out with the pistol grip stock. If you ever want to get rid of that one, just let me know. :joker: |

| I never thought of the .357 as much of a rifle. A cartridge designed for a pistol and shot in a rifle doesn't seem to be a logical choice for big game hunting or long distance shooting. I guess if you were close enough you could make clean kills but I would think the ballistics are such that that would be difficult. Based on the cartridge alon you would also thing it would have unappreciable stats when comapared to even a 30-30. We have ranchers around here that have .357 and they use it primarily for 'yotes. They wont even trust it at distance on cougar.

| The biggest game in Missori is whitetail deer and it will be fine for that. Buffalo Bore makes some ammo for it that has really thumps. http://www.buffalobore.com/ammunition/default.htm#357 Plus I live in the Ozarks so I don't need a long range rifle. Where I hunt a 100 yard shot is rare. Most are well under 50 yards.
