As far as the kill ratio, and the fact that our boys kick butt, it reminds me of the story of the American officer at the Paris Peace Talks, who told his Vietnamese counterpart, "we beat you every single time on the battlefield." The Vietnamese negotiator supposedly answered, "that is true. It is also irrelevent."
My fear is that, proud of our forces as I am, they've been put into an untenable position where they can win battles forever without winning the war. I honestly hope I'm wrong, and our best chance is that the foreign fighters will continue pissing off the locals until the Iraqis hate them worse than they do the Americans. At which point we can tip our hats and say, "adeiu." |
