Marlin XT22 thought?

Anyone seen or shot any of the new XT22's ? Thinking I may get one of the XT22MTW's, only walnut stock, tube feed bolt guns they still offer. Had an old Marlin tube feed bolt gun over 25 years ago, wish I'd never traded it. Haven't had a 22mag. in over 10 years, great coon medicine !! I just have no interest in semi-auto rimfires anymore, I know and respect the quick follow up proponent's, very practical. But... I've always been a well placed first shot, with an accurate rifle, leaves no need for a follow up, kind of guy. Volume of fire is great in a fire-fight, hunting, I've never felt the need. Marksmanship rules ! I could get another CZ, they're great guns, it's just I don't want to put 500+, ( by the time I scope it) into a gun once shot in , that I won't put more that 50 rounds a month through. Yeah, I'm "tight", and old too !

i have seen them and held them but not shot one. was looking at an xt22 in long rifle but did not like the way it felt. i had to search for the sights. i used to have an 25n and when it touched my shoulder it was there. dont know if they have changed the stock dimmensions or what. so i ended up buying a 25mn at a pawn shop for 150 out the door. it fits great and no searching for the sights.

Wish, I could still use irons, but these old eyes have to have a scope now.

I know what ya mean. Have something called bells palsey which has messed up the vision in my left eye. I have two scoped 22s and one not scoped.

As long as I can shoot " Bug-holes" with something, I'm happy. That and make my wife jealous when I hit the asprin, on the first shot !!!

I would buy a Savage. Marlin was bought out by Remington and I do not trust them. Savage in my opinion is a great company that produces higher quality guns than Marlin. That's my 2 cents on the matter.

The synthetic stock has changed, and greatly improved from the 925 series, IMHO...

Its taken Remlin a little while to get their quality up, and the latest XT22MVSR I checked over was solid as a pre-2005 Marlin
(2005 being the year they found out Marlin was up for sale and quality started running downhill)
I'd have no problem buying a 2012 Marlin made in the NY or KY facilities...if I had the money to do so

However, I'd also carefully inspect it prior to purchase...much as one should ANY new or used firearm.
None of the gun MFR's are above suspicion and all need to be watched, as many think QC is the Owner's Responsibility...

Think I'm going to bite the bullet and take a chance on the new XT22MTW, had a 783, wished I'd never traded it. A 783 in good shape goes for more than a new XT22MTW. Soon as I get done with my surgery and annual studies. Hopefully by the end of the month. I still love the old tube fed rifles. Yeah, I know I'm old.

I bought a new marlin XT with tube feed about a year ago. The barrel started to move off target after the third shot due to cheap metalurgy. A rifle capable of a 1" group at 100 yards was producing 4".

I E mailed marlin's official gunsmith to ask if marlin's guarantee included accuracy and got no reply.

Ended up fixing it myself. Looking at other posts on other forums, I'd say anyone buying an XT has a 50-50 chance of acquiring such a barrel.

Done gave up on the XT's, way too much bad press, a lot about QC, something that WAS, never a problem with a Marlin. Oh well, spent almost twice as much on a CZ 452 Lux 22mag. Worth it !!

Wanna bet?

I have seen and own/owned Marlin Mistakes...all but one was pre-2005.
(That 2006 Marlin 60 SUCKED, hence why it is gone now...)

My 2009 Marlin 795 was solid, but I still polished the stuffings out of the internals & replaced the trigger assembly with a DIP combo...
The 1895SBL ROCKED, but I needed cash and sold it...at least it went for a slight profit

My 1952 Marlin 336 has a badly indexed barrel...it's off 5-degrees to the right...
Heck, I could go on...suffice it to say that 2005-2011 was the WORST set of years to deal with,
but they made plenty of mistakes prior to that...plenty of RFC/MO quality posts that can be read back into the 1990's...

The last two batches I've seen were of at least 1990-2004 quality, which was what I'd call average for any MFR.
The batch before those two, not so hot....LOL

With any New MFR'ing line, there are always issues, it takes time to train new people on a new assembly line...
its why nobody in their right mind buys a car/truck/motorcycle the First year it comes out...
its just the nature of the beast...and the new CNC MFR'ing lines in NY & KY are beasts...
given time in rate, they tend to get better as they do things over & over & over...

much like a Private in the Army ain't worth a flying flibberty, PFC worth slightly more...
by the time they make Corporal, they've mostly got their squish together...
and by the time they make buck Sgt, they should have it together...
it takes time to make an effective worker...along with Drive and Honor.

I bought the XT-22r last week, and the front sight was squish. It was installed at about a 45 degree angle to the right. I got another one and I love it though. If you buy one, it is a must that you take it out and inspect it.

Success with marlin today is a 50-50 proposition.

Dunham's Sports has the the XT 22 on sale this weekend, ends Monday. For 169.99 in 22 LR, 7 shot magazine. It looks identical to my Glenfield 25. The only difference I see is the studs for the sling and swivels.
Here is their add if anyone is interested.

I would buy a Marlin. I bought a Savage and it's not as accurate as the Marlin and Savage does not offer a tube feeder.

I can't knock anything about Marlin, I have a 72 model 336C in 35 Rem. It's my bear/deer rifle. I've taken a 300lb. bear, a 12pt. whitetail, ( 20 years ago) and too many does to count, ( 2 every year ). Checked it last week, 3 shots inside a quarter, Rem. 200gn.sp. at 100yards. READY. I believe I mentioned, I gave up on a Marlin 22mag. and got a CZ 452 Lux. It will avg. under 1 MOA with Win. 30gn. V-max. CZ's aren't as cheap as a Marlin or Savage, but I think ya get yer money's worth.

Well I did buy a Marlin 925M a few years back and can say I have been quite satisfied. They are accurate and the price was more than fair. Bout $170 brand new back then. Scoped and slinged in and seems to like CCI 40 grainers the best Pretty good on Varmints as long as distance is not stretched to far. maybe I got a good one. Made at Conn. factory before they went under. Heard Conn. is expensive to do business in.
