| .17 Aguila I've heard of it..I suspect that it is .22lr necked down to .17 caliber like the popular .17HMR (Hummer) is 22wmr necked down to .17 caliber but I'm not sure..anybody know anything about this caliber ? Is it a 17 grainer ? :jet: |

| Moderator ![]() | The .17 Aguila (aka .17 HS for High Standard, who is making barrels and pistols for it) is indeed a necked-down .22LR. Over on the MarlinTalk Rimfire forum, do a search on this subject. Andrew and MarinePMI have actually test fired this round, though it isn't being officially imported yet. Some kind of Guvmint snafu holding up the importation. Should be a great squirrel-popper - the accuracy of the .17HMR but not so explosive.

| another reason you can't fire .22lr in a .22 wmr cylinder or chamber is because of the size or shape (or both..can't remember exactly) of the rim of the casings |

| Moderator ![]() | The .22WMR/.17HMR case is a larger diameter, since the .22 bullet fits inside the case mouth. The .22LR bullet is the same diameter as the case. Firing a .22LR in a WMR chamber will split the smaller LR case - don't ask how I know. Even the .17 Aguila and the .17 HS have some slight differences in neck length - but they are interchangeable. The .17HMR is a different animal altogether. If the little bugger ever makes it here and doesn't fizzle, I might get a rifle chambered for it.
