However, we are all different and the .22 mag may be the gun for you.
If possible, try before you buy.
Well, since this thread was made in 2004, I hope he's decided already lol

because, the 22 magnum has double the muzzle velocity, and double the muzzle energy. Its range is farther too.

I like shooting the 22 mag. more than I like shooting my non magnum 22's.
There's just something about haveing a little more power from a rim fire I guess.
I bought a new one and have shot it on one outting when I sighted in another rifle.
I like them and there fun to shoot. I need a scope for mine or I would be shooting it more often...A.H

Well as a new member and one who is buying a Marlin 22 mag bolt in about a week, how about a very obvious reason? Suppose you have a Ruger Sixgun .22 lr with a .22 mag cylinder like me. Even though I am not a cowboy I appreciate combining guns and ammo for ease of use and less to carry to the range.

Nope, never "bit the bullet" on a .22mag...since that time bought a 1970 Ruger MkI and a Henry Goldenboy in .22lr....

Only "high power" .22 I bought was a COLT HBAR in .223 1/7 twist...

I like them too but a better cost effective choice is a 222 or 223.
Still a 22 mag is a fun gun

The .22 mag is a hunting round the .22lr is a cheap plinking round that is used for hunting varmits close in to 70 yards out, useing a .22 mag as a plinking round isant a good choice as the price is too steep for that purpose, As a kid I did use a .22lr hunting raccoons and concur that the .22Mag is a way better hunting round for anything bigger than a possum.

Hey guys, my first post here.

I recently bought a Ruger Single Six and found that I enjoyed shooting the .22 magnum rounds more than I enjoyed shooting long rifle. Maybe it was the added "kick" or the added "boom." Either way, I enjoyed shooting the magnum rounds more.

After having spent the afternoon firing around 400 rounds through the single six, I realized that I hadn't even picked up my AR. I then started to think that a .22 magnum rifle would be fun to shoot for picking off clay pigeons at 100 yards, which is what I usually do with my AR.

I really don't understand why people compare shooting .22 wmr to shooting .223. Decent ball ammo for a .223 runs about $8 at box of 20 and it's less than $10 for a box of 50 in .22wmr.

I feel that the .22wmr nicely fills the void between the .22lr and the .223; consequently, I too am looking for a good .22 magnum rifle. From what I've read on this forum and others, it might be a toss up between one of the Marlins and the Savages. I already have a Zeiss Conquest 3-9X40 scope to put on top of it.

I just got off of the phone with a local gun shop and they have a selection of CZ 452s, as well as Marlins, Rugers and Savages. I'm really feeling the pull of the CZ.

If you reload a 222 223 is more cost effective and more versitile than a 22 mag.
But like i said a 22mag is a fun gun to shoot and i'll always own one. I have no use for the 17s.

Tony Angel, may I sugget the venerable Grendel R-31...if you can FIND one. It's the .22 Magnum semi-auto carbine version of the P-30/P-31 pistol.

Nice looking carbine, too...

Oh, yeah, they made pistols too the Grendel P-31 (below) & the P-30 (shorter barrel)

I decided to go with the CZ 452. It's a beautiful rifle and shoots well too. I also ordered a bunch of "plinking" ammo for it. It was like $7 a box of 50 and a local Walmart sells Maxi Mags for $9 a box of 50. I really don't see how people keep comparing the price of .22 mag to .223, even doing the reloading myself. I can't load a box of 50 .223 for less than I can get 22 mag for and the 22 mag is just fine out to 100 yards.

I love the CZ. I haven't been able to give it a work out yet, but at 25 yards it'll shoot one ragged hole. My son and I were having a kick in the butt shooting .45 cal brass casings off of the back stop at 25 yards with it. I can't wait to get it to the 100 yard range.

.22 mag are flat at 100 yards, and have the stopping power for small animals at that and higher distance. for larger game I would go with a .223 but the 22 if a great powerfull little round.

many will say the .17hmr is better, but the .22mag has more weight and more killing power. it will mushroom and stop game when a .17 will zip right through it.

22 Mag

Last night I bought a Marlin 22Mag Bolt Action (Camo Finish) for $200.00 Brand new.

$200.00 Is to much for a used 22 Rifle.

Do some browsing you will find what you want cheaper.

I can't wait to go shoot my new Mag I see the sun coming up and a cornfield with my name on it.

My message to the groundhogs:
