^ I think what he meant was for a regular rifle not something quite like what you have I would think the same thing if someone had a regular rifle like a 10/22 or something and was asking $200 for it I would laph at them but something like what you listed above is a bit diffrent nice gun by the way!

I could use some Tech Specs on the ballistic difference between a Bolt/Slide/Lever Action & Semi-auto action in .22WMR

Anyone have 'em?

I can tell the diff when shooting, but it'd be nice to have some numbers to back up the yap Bolt-action definitely has more range, but I wonder How Much More??

I don't have any specs on the the action types, but I know my Marlin 882SS will shoot, it is the most accurate, easy to shoot firearm I own.

Thinking it thru.

The way you phraised your question at the biginning say's allot.
the best thing to ask yourself is instead of "why should I buy it" is "what can you use it on?" and "do you need it?" is the money better banked and spent later/use on the type and model you would enjoy the use of more oftin?
My friend the finish carpenter "had" in the old hammer days had a nice 12oz finish hammer that did finish carpentry very well and had no use for a 24oz framing hammer, if he did have 24oz hammer it just took up room in the tool box as he hadent much use for one, denying a framing carpenter the use of a good framing hammer.

The .22mag is ment for hunting, to use one for plinking, you will go thru rimfire budget rather quickly.

The .22 Hornet is good also, and you can reload the ammo. Can't do that with the .22 mag and it is a center fire which is allowed in many states to take deer.

+1 on the 22 Hornet.

Cheap and easy to reload. And 22 mag is starting to reach centerfire prices, anyways.

tonotto is repugnant

many reasons to buy a 22 mag. first is because they have twice the velocity and twice the impact as a 22LR second is they have a much further travel distance and most important is if your stalking a squirl in a tree and he,s 70 ft. up and only showing that little eye over a limb to watch you with...... you can hit that little eye with a bolt action magnum

Thete is now son pretty HOT .22 lr ammo out there. Aguila has a couple of loads putting out about 200 ft lbs from a 20" to 24" barrel. I would use that instead of a 22 Mag and get a .223 or 22/250 instead.

sub-inch at 100yds is most definitely possible with the .22WMR

Ammo is cheaper than the .17's and the rifles are less expensive as well...usually $150-200 less.

If you want SERIOUS accuracy, grab a Marlin 982VS heavy barrel...they run around $249 and are frighteningly accurate Better than anything short of an Anschutz

I just recently picked up a Marlin 25M and I'm pretty impressed with it's accuracy. I've got a Mossberg 640K Chuckster that I hope to have cleaned up and ready to shoot soon but I'm having problems locating a replacement stock, does anyone know where I might find a stock for a Mossberg 640K?

If it's not broken, consider just re-staining it

Sand it, pick your favorite color, stain, clearcoat, Enjoy!

Been thinking about a 22 Mag too..

I've always liked the .22 Magnum as a caliber, and have been considering one recently, esp. as a way to have a little more "Pop" than a Regular .22 with a little less damage to the wallet as well. At any rate Recently just for S***s and Grins I did a little research on Sportman's guide to get a better feel for cost vs performance and this is what I came up with. Keep in mind this isn't that scientific but does give a little idea of where the current bang for the buck is so to speak LOL.

Cost per Round Common Ammo.

it kinda depends on wat ur gonna use it 4
if u plan 2 do plinking all the time, stick wit ur .22 LR (cause its cheap as dirt!)
i have found that the 22 mag is good for larger varmints (coyotes), cause of the heavier round. The 22 mag's trajectory isnt as good as the 17 HMR, but heck, it weights like 20 grains heavier. i agree with nathangdad, u should try it out before u get 1.
If u decide 2 get a 22 mag, i reccomend savage cause of the accutrigger.
Hope This Helps

Okay..., here I go again...,

Why don't you consider the 5mm Remington Rimfire Magnum?? I have found a place on line that is quite competitive with the HMR ammo - including shipping.

I just love this round and it is definitely an advantage over the .17 and the .22 mag. Currently only available in the old Remington rifles with clip or tube feed, but there is an excellent chance that CZ, Stevens, Cooper (awesome!), and Taurus is going to come out with a pistol for the round. Now, Aguila is re-manufacturing the ammo and like I say, the cost is very reasonable (2300 fps w/a 30 gr bullet!). Accuracy is every bit as good (better) as any rimfire out there.

So..., with the new gun manufacturers, new ammo, new powders, new bullets (.204 Ruger), I really think this is going to take off! Jump on the band wagon and seriously consider this sweeeeet round. Too bad it was about 40 years ahead of its time!

I can't believe that no one has mentioned this yet. Okay, I'll try and get off of my soap box... but only until everyone has heard about this round. I always get comments when I take it out to the range - most have never even heard of it! Not a necked down .22 mag - a round unto itself.

Check it out!

5mm mag has a long way to go before it becomes a proven round. Even the .17's are on a teetertotter in this economy. Gotta wait until it all shakes out...and whether or not the Dems slap a huge tax on ammo, which will flat out kill every non-standard and probably more than a few standards.

Best thing anyone can do right now is send at least one letter a month to their congressmen & senators telling them to leave our guns alone or be voted out in two years.
