All weather 10/22 with an affordable 3-9 scope and the volquartsen action group.

Thumbs up

Go with a classic - Winchester 75T or Remington 521-T or a nice Mossberg 144LSB. All in that price range, just check Auction Arms or GunsAmerica. Your local FFL can order it for you.

Or for a new rifle, it's hard to beat a CZ452.

Get a nice stainless 10/22...with the money left over you can get a nice scope for it...aftermarket parts galore too...

Seriously, I dug a .177 pellet out of the base of a squirrel's skull this fall that I shot w/ the shotgun. What are the odds?

I think he means someone else shot the squirrel and didn't kill it.

I'd say 10/22 too - get a cheap one (cos you'll only keep the receiver) and then pimp it out - bull barrel, target stock, scope (I like my BSA .22), volquartsen hammer. Shoots quite accurate.

10/22 makes a nice starting platform as stated above. I have several and all work well. For a lever gun Ruger makes a nice 96/22 that you only have to pump a little.

My 10/22 is untouched for the 15 years Iv'e had it, not counting the scope. I can kill limb rats just fine with it.

If you are putting it up for a vote, I'll vote for the 10/22. Great little rifles. My 10/22 is also untouched again except for the scope. When I take the family out shooting everyone wants to shoot the 10/22, nice little rifle, accurate as heck, and no kick.
