Higgins mod. 43

What do you think of the model 43? I bought one today in about 90% condition for $50. Bright bore, havn't shot it yet. I have noticed that it doesn't cycle properly with more than one shell in the tube, when it picks up the shell the next one comes back and blocks the bolt from closing all the way, any idea what is wrong?

Sounds like the cartridge lifter isn't coming up properly, and is allowing the next shell to feed too early. Maybe a worn spring, given the age of these guns. See if Numrich (e-gunparts.com) has a schematic, and you should see the parts involved.
I'm not familiar with the model number 43, and what gun company made it.
It's probably a Savage/Stevens design.

It is made by Marlin and is the same as their model 81.
