Question Pheonix Arms

Anybody got any comments on these?
local gunsmith has had one on display for a while now, he's getting tired of looking at it and wants it gone. He's asking 180 for it brand new in the box.
I've been wanting a little autoloader to plink around with for awhile now, this one has so many safety devices it's almost cool.
It has a thumb safety, hammer block, magazine disconnect, slide won't move with safety on, magazine won't drop with safety off, halfcock, even comes with a little expandable faux shell that will lock the gun up when in the chamber.
It seems like a really well made gun, just a little over engineered with all those bells and whistles.

I've heard they are a pain in the butt to operate. I don't have any personal experience with one though.

I imagine it would be, with all those gizmos. I'm mostly thinking of just plinking with it.

If it is the .22 model without the changeable barrel, it is a ripoff in price. Even if it was, it is still too high. I see Phoenix .22s around for $130 and less.

I think that one model come with a little bit longer of a barrel along with the shorter one. It's the "Target" model or something. I have to agree that $180 seems a little high. Check out gunbroker.com for some current prices. Maybe the guy will come down in price if he is tired enough of looking at it. Good luck.

I have seen both barrels in a package deal for about $170, but that was certainly not the "marked down for clearance" special. That was the "we're the only ones who carry this in the area and want full retail" price.

$170 is what the nickel plated Phoenix runs brand new here..I've been tempted to buy one to leave locked up in the glovebox

These might be of interest to you:

While I definately woouldn't compare it to the other models they did, I do like the little thing. I believe straight up price for a FFL dealer was $120 or 150 last I checked. But I would pay a little more. I have shot the small version, and you better have your plugs with you or else your head's goin'a be ringing.

Gun Magazine Best Buy Handguns -Annaul 2001
Phoenix Arms HP-22

This looks like a cheap little junk gun. Don't be fooled. It's actually a cheap little gun that works. I've talked to a number of owners who marvel at this, since they expect lowpriced pistols to jam and fall apart.

No, it doesn't have "class." What it does have is a very small size. It has numerous safety devices, enough to make it a pain in the backside to juggle them all when you unload it and then check that it's empty.

It also has is a suggested retail price of $116. The HP-22's low-acquisition cost combines with the low cost of the .22 Long Rifle ammo to make it the most affordable entry portal to recreational handgun shooting.

A lot of people will buy a Phoenix Arms HP-22 who may not ever buy a more expensive pistol. They will learn to shoot. They will learn gun safety. Some will go on to more expensive guns. Their lives will be better and safer for it. Each time this happens, at least one more person will become a gun owner and have a stake in gun owners' civil rights.

Sounds like a best buy to me.

There's a couple, if you do a good search on them you'll probably find mixed reviews, with some loveing then and others thinking them to be junk guns. I personally like them. I wouldn't buy the Nickel version, because after a few shots it will start to flake off near the muzzle. For just a little more you could find a MII or MIII used. But for a brand new 22lr, and might I add probably the safest pistol I have ever seen, it's a good deal.

Pheonix handgun

Ive got one of these and it needed alittle grinding underneath the barrel because it was scraping across the bullet when pulling it back to load and actually would not pull back most the time, I repaired the problem and now it works great. Its actually a great accurate little pistol! Actually it was a spot underneath the pullback mechanism, the one I have is the .25 its weighted very balanced and feels good in my hands. I paid 150.00 at a pawn shop here in Georgia for it about 3 months ago , brand new.

I had one a long time ago and it was ok I guess. The only ammo I could get to function in it good was cci stingers.

I bought one because of this article.. It's a hunk of CRAP!! It's been back to them, they've sent me parts, and it's still crap.. Might as well be a paperweight..

I'm giving it one more try and letting a local gunsmith tinker with it. If he can't get it to work, I'll be traded off, or sent back to Phoenix and they can melt it down..

The slide will NOT stay on the barrel.. Lifts off constantly..

This .22 makes my old Jennings seem like a work of art..

We got one

We got one of these, the two barral package now, the full meal deal if you dare say .
We both like it , its allot of un . Very reliable once you find the ammo it likes, CCi Mini-Mags for us .
Its a complete pain in the butt to totally strip though . Takes some doing but once you figure out your method it works fine . Its still a pain though .
The price your looking at is way too high for that gun . They aint worth that .
I paid $50 in a pawn shop four years ago , bought the nickel longer barrel barrel from mail order with clip last year for under $40 .
Shop around for another , or tell him to quit trying to rip you off and talk him down to $100 or so .
If it doesn't come with both barrels , heck no !!!
Good little gun though, for us .

I wouldn't give over $75 for a Phoenix, NIB or otherwise. The company has had a LONG reputation for junk.

I think that's a good plan, since SOG sells them at $99, dealer cost..

If I had your sense, I wouldn't own this POS..
