Every once in a whle you can find a good deal

I am always on the lookout for a good deal on my next purchase. I was wanting a .22 rifle for the wife to learn to shoot long gun. A few weeks ago, I found a decent price on a Savage bolt action with composite stock. Yesterday, I found a good deal on a Marlin semi, tube fed with a scope. If you look hard enough and are patient, you can find some good deals that pop up.

The Savage was $85 or so. Wal-Mart new is about $99. The Marlin with scope was $109, I think. The Marlin is going for about $130 at Wal-Mart and the scope is going for somewhere around $30 new @ Wal-Mart. I priced them there after I bought it just to see if I got a decent price.
We haven't shot them yet. Actually, we were going to go shooting yesterday. We were on the way out the door with a duffle bag full of hearing protection, ammo, and hand guns. The wife was carrying the Savage (I took the little scope off the Savage so I could teach her to shoot with open sights on long gun) and I had the Marlin. The wife tripped and fell down the stairs, spraining her ankle pretty badly. That pretty much cancelled the trip to the gun range yesterday. The Savage now has a few concrete driveway inflicted battle scars.

The wife was itching to go shooting after last week's mishap. We took the Savage to the range today. It is sweet. The wife, never having shot long gun before, thinks that she likes the Ruger and Buckmark .22 pistols better. She is just not used to holding a rifle and her arms got tired. When we try an outdoor range, I will show her different positions than standing to see if she likes that better. Maybe even kneeling with a bench rest indoors would work for her. She certainly is not used to a bolt action, re-aiming, firing, bolt action, re-aiming, etc. She remarked that she likes semi-auto better. I will have to try her on the Marlin next time.

cheap .22 at chinamart

Anybody else seen the new clip-fed Mossberg (I think) .22 at Walmart selling for $93 new? It just showed up in the past month or two here. Semi-auto. Black composite furniture. Looks pretty nice. If I didn't have a Marlin already, I'd be all over it. It looks pretty mean. Heheh. I'm still drooling over it though. I like the clip-fed feature a lot more than those tubular magazines.
