22's I wish I still owned.

Here is a picture of my Winchester .22's that I had a few years ago.

From right to left:

Model 9422
Model 9422 XTR
Rossi copy of Model 62
Model 490 (Made in Canada)
Model 69

I sold the XTR and 69 but still have the other three.

Wish I still had the other two.

Smile The best caliber ever made .22

The .22 cal has to be the best caliber ever made. Think of all the fun you had using them both as a child and as an adult. Think how cheap it is to shoot. Think about the hunts you've been on and with who. Again, it has to be the best caliber ever made.

One of these days I want to get a Taurus copy of the Winchester model 63 auto.

Also love to have a Henry .22 octagon barrel lever action.

My favorites are pump and lever action with visible hammers so I always know whether I'm safe or not.

I've wanted a Winchester model-61 hammerless pump for years because it is such a fine weapon but would really have to pay attention to the state of the gun at any given time.

Hopefully, Taurus or Henry will do a 61 copy someday.

I know what you mean ArtL

Hey ArtL, you could not have hit the proverbial nail on the head more correctly. I have sooo many fond memories of going with my cousin @ 8,9,... years old with our Grandfather ( he had a sweet place right on Lake Michigan in a little town in Michigan's U.P. called Naubinway ) out to what felt like a trip to Alaska, to shoot tin cans from at least 1500 + yards with .22 shorts. We would have to share who got to carry " the rifle " ( Remington bolt ); it always started with an arguement, then Grandpa would step in and end it by saying, I could carry it to, and cousin could bring it back. We each got a hand full of rounds, and when those were gone, so were we; it's so strang that it seemed to be perfect, knowing that within a few days we would return again to do it all over again. I can only hope that my 2 boys will recall the many times we spent shooting. My oldest boy has given me an awesome Granddaughter, and I'm certian I'll be surprised soon with another Grandchild. I'm now averaging 2,500 + round annually as a adult. What a blast... STILL !!!!

I wish I had my little Iver Johnson M1-22 Carbine back - some dingleberry stole it with some other guns.
It was a good shooter, a bit ammo sensitive (choked on anything 'Winchester'!), but was a fun little gun.

Art L hit it right. The most fun that I have is with my .22 handgun. I find that the older I get, the less I like (or need) recoil!

Here is a digital picture of the Winchester .22's I still have.

I wanted to compare the sharpness of the scanned in photo I started this thread with and a digital photo.

Hey Shef, that Marlin has a nice look to it.

I should add a bolt-action to my .22 collection but don't want to spend a fortune on a plinker.

Curious to hear how your groups are with the Aguila High Velocity ammo.

Also, how much work would it take to lighten the trigger pull?

Dan, I am afraid my post was kinda off topic. I am going to start it in its own thread and comment further.

.22's really are the most fun, IMO. Hollow points and water-filled soda cans, can't beat it!

When I was in highschool,

this dude was mad because his Remington 550-1 would not work. I looked at it and told him the floating chamber (courtesy or Carbine Williams) was missing and that this rifle would work fine if he got it repaired. He said, that he had no patience for such and that he would trade it to me for two boxes of 12 gauge dove loads (2.79 a box in those days from K-Mart).

I made the deal. But, new little of places like Numrich arms or even how to contact Remington. We had one sorry gunsmith in town (just a parts replacer really) and when I took the rifle to him. He said it would be weeks before the part came in and he could install it. The walls of his shack were lined with firearms of all types with tags on the triggers complete with the names of other anxious souls like me.

I made the mistake of telling him how I acquired the rifle and he offered me $12 for it to more than double my investment. I took him up on it. But, later on I paid $130 for a 550-1 in 2000 and wished I had done some research back in 1973 and simply sent off to Numrich for the needed parts.

But, one must live and learn.

I also wish I had my first .22 rifle back. It was just a .22 semi-auto made by Savage and sold under their econo banner name of "Springfield". But, it was my first gun and I saved the money from my paper route to have Dad buy it for me. Killed my first squirrel with it too.
