Removing the front sight on a 10/22 ???

Can anyone tell me how to and if it's' hard to remove the front sight on a 10/22? I want to get a barrel shroud for mine and will need to remove the front sight to put it on the rifle. Plus I found this nice hk style front sight that I'd like to put on as well, and I am having trouble finding info on how to do so...thanks.

Hammer and brass punch should do it. Best I remember it just taps in a dove-tail on the front sight base.

Oh, I wasn't sure if it would be better to have a gunsmith do it. I don't want to damage it.

If you arent sure if you need a gunsmith you most assuredly do.It is much cheaper to go to a gunsmith before you mess it up than after you do mess up. sam.

You're probably right...I'll take it to the smith.

You should be able to do it, but if you don't feel comfortable with it, you just might mess things up. I personally would try it, but that's just me. Good luck.
