.22 lever action

Looking for a fun gun to enjoy at the range for an affordable price. Can somebody point me in the direction of a good lever action .22 rifle? I have no experience with lever action but they have always seemed quite enjoyable.

I have an old winchester 9422 that belonged to my father. My favorite gun. But if I was in the market to buy one I would probably go Henry.

Thumbs up

I love the Henry! Mine is the smaller & lighter Model 001, a slick little carbine. Joe's Goldenboy is a longer & heavier rifle - I mean to get one sometime. Had my chance at the local gun&pawn - but I went back and it was GONE!
Henry has a super smooth action, excellent accuracy and reliability, and they have The Best customer service of ANY gun company. You won't go wrong with a Henry!

Marlin makes several great .22 lever action rifles. I love my 39A.

Marlin has only 1 Leveraction now and it's not cheap but it would be a pleasure to own.
For many years I wanted one and who knowns I might own one some day.
I wish Marlin would change the stocks back to the ones they had on this rifle for a humpteen years.
Though the stocks are nice now the smooth non-checkered to me is more befitting to the 39-A.

As far as the Henry you couldn't go wrong with one of them either but I like the Marlin best.
Depending on which Henry you buy, one of the Blued steel models will cost less than the Marlin...A.H

My boys love to shoot lever action .22 rifles. We currently have three - a Henry, a Browning BL-22 and the Ruger version (kind of an odd-looking gun).

All three are super reliable. The Ruger is the quickest to load with its "10/22" magazines. The Henry is a very slick gun and I'd recommend it. My favorite is the Browning.

The Henry is the best buy. The Browning is great but it's a pricey gun. The Ruger is a tough little gun but not my favorite.

I agree with two-70 and NRA Joe. Get a Henry.

I vote for the henry. Have one on order right now. Model Hoo1 I had a chance to shoot one of my buddies henry's and loved that smooth action.
Decided I couldn't wait any longer.

This the one A.H.? This is my first gun, given to me by my now-deceased father when I was 10.

Where were you when I needed you I sold a really nice marlin lever that broke down into 2 pieces and fit in its own padded case. When my factory closed down I was forced to sell it cheap. there are still a lot of nice used ones out there. PS mine went for 200.00 I could just cry.

Comparing the Henry and the Marlin is comparing apples & oranges.
My Marlin M39A is a 1952 model with the fat fore end, and fitted with the superb Marbles Tang Peep Sight - I love it!
My Henry H001 is a shorter & lighter 'carbine' with a 4X scope. I often shoot it without the scope.

The Henry tends to get taken to the range far more often. It's light & handy, smooth and reliable, and so far more accurate than the Marlin.

Kinda like preferring to drive a VW Bug than your F150.

I had a Henry 001 also. My son and daughter, loved that gun. I once hit an empty shot shell at 35 paces with open sights with no warm up shots on paper! Great little shooter! I only had it about 5 months, but I put at least 6 bricks through it with no problems. My only gripe was the fore grip was loose, and wiggled a little. I sold it to get a Benelli Nova 20ga, damn my finances!

Have you considered the Ruger 10/22?

Hawaii, my Henry has a loose forearm also. It has a very slight wiggle, so slight that I never bothered to do anything about it. This might be a characteristic of the model.

You get what you pay for. My Browning BL-22 doesn't have this problem, but the Browning is twice the price of the Henry.

I still think the Henry is a great .22 lever action. Unbelievably slick action for such a reasonably priced gun.

After I sold the Henry, the kids and I missed the lever so I started looking for a Browning and none of the shops anywhere neer me had one! Oh well I couldn't afford one right now anyway.
